Just a query, why had my box not automatically updated at all since July 2010?

how do you leave the box overnight: in standby, active or with the power turned off at the mains? Leaving it in standby is the best way to ensure automatic updates happen.

I am confused. There was no hint of the 1.02.28 update at http://www.firmware.org.uk/Humax/HD-FOX-T2.html and still isn’t. Is this the wrong place to look?

It is an unofficial site; the official Humax site is probably the best place for updates Link to 1.02.28

Also, the supposed ‘benefits’ of the update have not appeared on my HD Fox T2 – e.g. no on screen indication of the mode of the multifunction remote is being displayed (no great loss),

There is more than one type of remote that has been supplied with the HD models and the on screen indication is only possible with one of the remote types.

but the internet radio has gone (as discussed by others).

It has been temporarily removed from the portal whilst Humax fix the bug that slipped into 1.02.28.

This lackadaisical approach to updates, given the size of the customer base, is staggering.

    What lackadaisical approach?

Will the internet radio ever return?

    Yes.

On a weekly basis – a Wednesday – my PVR fails to respond to the remote.

The usual reason for this problem is that the box is running an old version of the software so I think the starting point is for you to tell us the software version number and the system ID.

is this problem having a detrimental effect on the PVR, ie: it won’t know when to record, or is the clock display just busted?

It will not record from standby with the clock inoperative.

Have retuned (automatic search) three times this week, after retuning everything is fine then later in the evening I lose the ITV channels + Channel 5 and 5* so missing Big Brother as well as losing the recording schedule.

My guess is that you need to do a manual tune; see post three in this thread Link to manual tune instructions

I suspect you are right in your diagnosis, however, things have improved since I remade the coax connection. Still blipping, but far less often. Perhaps I need a newer / better aerial?

What is signal strength and more important signal quality?

I have tried turning it off for a while, but not a factory reset. I’d rather do that as a last resort because I don’t want to lose the recordings.

The reset to default settings will not delete the recordings and is definitely the first thing to try.

So if I wanted to keep a copy of a recording, say on DVD, I would need to record it non HD?

There are restrictions on what can be discussed on this Forum so you might want to pop over to hummy.tv.

    I’m using Crystal Palace.

There have been a small number of somewhat similar reports and some have involved Crystal Palace. Has everything been OK since? If so put it down as one of those things that is unlikely to be properly explained.

Doesn’t the HDR FOX T2 allow a single archive copy of HD content like the Foxsat-HDR ?

You can take as many archive copies as you like but they remain encrypted and can only be played on the box where the recording was made.

Other than to bin it and get a new one, anybody got any ideas on what I can do?

Sorry to be a prophet of doom but I don’t recall anybody reporting any success with repairing this sort of fault; however this does mean that you have very little to lose. Please let us know if (and how) you get it working.

I would check your television settings not the HDR’s as the message mentions the TV.

    Well spotted.

Now I just have to watch everything before I can format the drive!

Best advice would be to leave the box on permanently until you have time to watch the recordings and format. The loss of all recordings problems seems to happen most often when going into or coming out of standby.

    Hi

    HDR FOX2

I have been unable to stop the Auto switch to standby feature.

What exactly are you seeing happen?. Do you have a power on or power off setting?
