Just found that my Aura is saying the internal HDD is corrupted, and it’s safely ejected itself.
Tried a reboot and also a format (I only had a couple of unwatched recordings on it, so no big loss) and it looks like rather than corrupt, the HDD is dead as it keeps reporting the same corruption.
I have a few questions:
1) Is the HDD replacable? Just a matter of getting a new one, opening the case up and swapping?
I haven’t had to do it on an Aura but I would expect that to be true.
2) Is it possible to connect a USB hard drive to the Aura and record to that?
I am fairly sure you can’t.
3) Given the poor tuner strength on the Aura, can anyone recommend a suitable replacement (Humax or otherwise) to improve the recording quality (access to apps and Android TV not mandatory).
I don’t regard the Aura has having poor tuner strength. In what way are you expecting recording quality to improve with signal strength? With digital transmission it should either work or not work with only a very narrow window between the two where you may get some problems. Have you considered things like whether the aerial is the most efficient and is thr cabling in good condition?

Not sure if this is the correct forum!
We purchased a FVP-4KGTR Oct 2024.
No it isn’t the correct Forum it should be in the Aura Forum.
As regards your problem, how often is it occuring? I have an Aura and I have seen it happen but very rarely.

Does anyone know if there are plans to update the app to run on newer android versions???
I don’t know but in the past new versions of the app have appeared to support new versions of Android. I suggest you contact Humax support.

Hi FVP-5000T
Is this it?
Yes that is the model number. Try this ” change the TV’s [HDMI Deep Colour] setting to off. (Depending on model) • → [ ] → [General] → [External Devices] → [HDMI Settings] → [HDMI Deep Colour] “

Hi, I have bought a new LG TV 50ut73006LA and I cannot get it to go through my Humax box. Aerial is in the Humax box, HDMI from humax into LG tv (HDMI1) and power on. When i switch to HDMI1 it says not connected
Please could you tell us which model of Humax PVR you have?

A recorded film lasting about 2 hours plays for about 20 minutes and then returns to the recordings list. This has happened in the past with other recordings but I cannot remember how we resolved it. Is there any option which will not wipe out our other recordings?
I have found that if you Convert (blue button at the bottom of the recording list) the recording, you can the sometimes get it to play using VLC. You will need to install the VLC app.

We are having this problem with recordings at the moment as well. I know it happened a while ago and can’t remember how it was resolved – any suggestions which won’t erase our existing recordings?
How often is it happening? If it is several times a week then try doing a Freeview reset. Some people are using a timer switch to turn the power to the box off for a short time in the middle of the night which might be a viable solution; if you do this it would be a good idea to set a repeat recording for a short programme early in the morning eg a weather forecast as the first startup after a poweroff is significantly slower than the usual start up.

Never gonna happen is it?????
Humax bunch of liars
Barry, who we know has contacts at Humax, has said in post #28 that there is something in the works but it is still some months away. I continue to think that something will be released, I doubt that it will fix all problems but any improvements will be welcome.

I have set a time switch to power down for 30 mins overnight and find that I now have very few problems with the unit.
I agree that is a reasonable thing to do but you could power down for a couple of minutes an get the same effect. How are you getting round the slower startup after a power down? One way would be to schedule a short program eg a weather forecast for the early morning.

Hi Guys
I’ve tried the search box but cannot find instructions for a novice, on how to copy programmes from the Fox HDD to an external HDD or preferably, to a USB stick. Is there an idiots guide on how to and which is the best device, HDD or USB stick. Thank you
From User Black Hole over at Hummy.tv:
“Plug a FAT32 memory stick or disk into either of the USB sockets;
Media >> [select recording] >> OPT+ >> Move/Copy >> [select destination] >> Copy (red)
The only possible cock-up you could make is to navigate into the destination folder instead of just selecting it. If you do that, the copy operation doesn’t happen. If you are not navigated into the UPD/disk and still on the internal drive, the red option will be “move” not “copy”.”

Everything is then fine for a few days, until the problem recurs.
Has anyone else encountered similar and are there any long-term fixes?
I have seen something similar occasionally. You could try a “Freeview Reset”. Settings> Freeview Play Preferences> Freeview Rest. when I did a reset, I didn’t have any problems with existing recordings but some people have reported lost or corrupted recordings so it might be worth backing up any important recordings.

Looks like the only option is to get out the hot air gun, or send it off to one of the repair services.
I finally found the thread about using a heat gun; see https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/humax-hdr-1000s-not-recognising-hard-drive about using a heat gun to resuscitate faulty boxes with a heat gun. In my view the explanation of “resets the hard drive overload in the humax chip” makes no sense but for several people the heat gun does seem to have been beneficial.

Just an update – I’ve scanned through the .HJM files from my friend’s HDR1100S and unfortunately the recordings are all from HD channels – therefore encrypted, and only playable on her machine.
Looks like the only option is to get out the hot air gun, or send it off to one of the repair services.
Based only on reports here, I would say try the hot air gun.
