As you mention well known fault. To my knowledge and memory, I think it was/is related to a bug in software.

I have always thought that it is a bug in the hardware that does the decoding which might explain why Humax had no interest in trying to fix it.

    2. Skipping ads when playing back recordings.

This used to be very easy. Stop, forward and resume play.

But now when I try to do this, the recording frustratingly skips backwards into the portion already viewed, or return to start.

If you are only seeing this behaviour occasionally then this is a known bug where sometimes the time line doesn’t work properly. I don’t know a fix other than stopping the playback, restarting it and the skipping manually to the desired point. If you are seeing it every time you try and skip then this behaviour I haven’t seen before.

In my view the skipping bug and the black screen bug should have been fixed by Humax a long time ago.

does anyone know whether the iPlayer app on the FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder can handle UHD (Ultra High Definition) transmissions from the BBC?

(if not, is it the 5000T iPlayer app which is lacking, or is it the 5000T itself which cannot handle UHD?)

I suspect not because according to the FVP-5000T specifications the best video resolution is 1080p.

Thanks Martin. Yes appreciate they are pretty old kit now. Not sure if there’s a more up-to-date Freesat PVR.

HDR-1000S, HDR-1010S, HDR-1100S are all more modern. If I was looking, I would try and find a good second-hand HDR-1100S but the FOXSAT HDR does have the advantage of having custom firmware available.

Sorry to return to an old thread, but now also considering getting a Humax Foxsat-HDR DVR for Freesat. Any ideas whether this is likely to suffer from the skipping issue mentioned in the original post?

As far as I know the only Humax boxes that suffer from that particular problem are the 9150T and 9300T so the FOXSAT HDR should be fine but of course the hardware is getting old.

Is there any way to temporarily shutdown the Android part of the Aura to try to identify if the Aura rebooting problem is coming from the live tuners or the Android department.

Not as far as I know,

    Black Screen Bug

Interesting. I think there are other forms of the black screen bug where it can be recovered from by changing channel or starting to play a recording and then stopping it but I do agree that sometimes nothing will restore the live TV display other than a power down but your approach of restarting the apps sounds very interesting and I will try it next time I see the problem. Thank you.

All working great now really appreciate all of your help my Aerial is outside on the same bracket as my satellite dish .only slight pixilation on one or 2 channels but not channels I watch so all good ,I seem to have 100 strength but the quality goes from 53% to 100% perhaps it needs better coaxial cable.

You should be aware that in some cases 100% signal strength might overload the tuners and cause the breakup you are experiencing although the Aura is less prone to this than earlier Humax boxes which had tuners designed for pre DSO signal strengths. Roughly, how far are you from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter?

Ha! I just did this mains reboot and the Humax has reverted to the list of channels I had before I performed the manual Search and … Record facility is working again :-)

Could I ask which model of Humax Freesat box you have please?

Sick of half the time I turn the box on from standby, it immediately turns back off or does a slow standby where it doesn’t really work for the first minute or two properly.

I believe it is supposed to be every 4 days.

But that’s just how it is, my question is, if I disable internet access to the box will it stop this? And, will it still work… I only use it for TV recording none of the smart stuff, not sure if the EPC relies on internet.

I think the only way to find out is to turn off Internet access and see what happens. The backward EPG comes, I think, from the Internet but the normal forward EPG will be delivered from the broadcast stream although some elements probably come over the Internet. Please let us know what you find.

Been having issues where all the recording dissappeared.

I removed the hard disk drive and connected it to my windows pc.

I could hear the disk in operation. Looked at it in Disk management and it appeared to be fine.

This could be a symptom of a well know problem with the HDR-1000S which is caused by an issue on the mother board rather than the hard drive. The initial symptoms are that the hard drive becomes inaccessible for a period of time but if the box is left off for a while then the hard drive becomes visible again. This symptom reoccurs at increasingly frequent intervals.

The only possible remedies are to send the box to Digirepairs in Ireland or to have a go at using a heat gun to reflow the solder. There are instructions on this forum.

What would be a recommended replacement?

    Would a “Western Digital Purple 1TB Surveillance 3.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s Hard Disk Drive with Allframe 4K Technology – 180TB/yr, 64MB Cache, 5400rpm – WD10PURZ” be suitable?

What is the maximum size hd that the humax can cope with?

My guess is that the hard drive would be suitable but buy from an online retailer so that you have a right of return. The HDR-1000S uses an MBR style partition table so you are limited to 2TB.

I live in Walsall West Midlands

It’s all the channels I wash a lot like Yesterday and Quest and some times on Dave ,I will try to upload a picture,I’ve recorded programs and had to delete them as there unwatchable.

No need to upload a picture, we know what a signal quality of 58% will give. Yesterday and Quest are both on the ARQ B mux. Would I be correct in thinking you are receiving from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter? According to the Freeview reception checker you should be getting a good signal on all channels. Anybody else receiving from Sutton Coldfield getting reception problems on ARQ B?

Thanks for reply ,I have checked on the channels that pixelates its showing 86% strength

    and 53% Quality

86% strength should be more than enough but 53% quality is a problem; normally it should be 100%. Can you give an example of a channel that shows the pixelating problem and which transmitter you receive from or some indication of where you live?

I Have replaced the Arial with a better one perhaps I need a booster.

So please tell us what the signal strength and quality reported by the Aura is when tuned to a channel which pixelates>
