I’ve looked at the link you kindly sent through. Can you tell me how I am able to check which transmitter I am connected to please?
In Settings go to System> Signal Detection when tuned to BBC 1 SD. Note down the Multiplex Channel number that is displayed; the multiplex is BBC A. Repeat for BBC1 HD (Multiplex BBC
, ITV1 SD (Multiplex D3&4), Sky Arts (11) (Multiplex ARQ A), Quest (12)(Multiplex ARQ
, Drama (20) (Multiplex SDN). Compare the multiplex channel numbers with the numbers shown in in the column headed “N” in the Coverage prediction for your location. If they match you are tuned correctly.
Do you see the same problem if the TV is connected direct to the aerial (rather than passing through the Humax)?

Why is my new Humax not recording some programmes?
Can I check is your Humax an FVP-5000T? If it is then my experience is that it is pretty reliable at making recordings. Is it just recordings on ITV that are failing or are recordings on other channels failing?

Signal strength is running around 78%. Quality is 100%.
Is that on all channels or just one?
Not sure how to check which transmitter I am connected to but, given the signal strength and quality, presumably the transmitter we are connected to is fine…?
To get a good idea of the best transmitter go to:
https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/detailed-transmitter-information
The other possibility is that a hardware problem is causing the breakup but I don’t immediately recognise the symptoms as being one of the commoner problems.

The hard drive came from a Bush Freeview recorder. B1TBHDPVR. The recordings are SD.
OK I am afraid I know nothing about that PVR. Luke may be able to help.

I am trying to access files on a hard drive , I removed from a hard disc recorder. I understand you need a Linux reader to do this. I can access the files but when I click on them nothing happens. I am using the VLC media player to try and play the files but it does not recognise them.
Please tell is which model of Humax recorder the hard drive came from and whether the recordings are SD or HD?

I have quite an old HDR T2 I’m happy with. I was getting crashes and reboots when watching some of the lower bitrate poor quality Freeview channels so I decided to do the last custom firmware update v20.
Sorry I don’t recognise the v20; exactly what version of the custom firmware do you have please? I would suggest you ask your question over at hummy.tv where the custom firmware experts are to be found.

I noticed that the Humax Aura 2tb has usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports. I plugged a usb stick with AVI files into both ports, but nothing came up. Can you use these ports to view files on a usb stick, or are they for something else ?
Try installing VLC player and then you should be able to play content from USB devices.

Have recently upgraded to Aura to allow access to ITVx and wanted to save a few of the recordings on old FVP5000-T Had tried to use USB when still connected to aerial/internet but said could not read despite correct formatting as indicated.
Does the USB connected drive have am MBR style partition table? If it is GPT then the FVP-5000T won’t see it.
So used USB A to USB A to connect to PC but did not appear in File explorer and only option seems to be “Map Network Drive” not find another device.
I wouldn’t expect USB A to USB A to work.

I have done a Smart scan, still no go
Any advice would be appreciated.
Do an automatic tune with the Smart scan option off will almost certainly fix the problem. You will however lose your schedule of future recordings.

1. I own a Humax Aura 2tb. When the hard drive is full, is it possible to connect it to my PC and download the files from Humax to my internal PC hard drive? So I can view them on my PC.
You can download files to a PC in various ways. For me the easiest way is to use FTP. SD recordings are not encrypted so will play without problem. HD recordings are encrypted so need to be converted to a lower resolution to be playable on another device; this can be done by the Aura. The parameters I use for FTP are:
Host: IP address of the Aura
Port: 2323
Encryption : None ie plain FTP
User: aura
Password: usually 0000
Please ask if you need more help.

Ask, I had backed up the recordings via the ftp server to my pc, I was going to just drop them back in the new box in the upload box. I assumed that would work, but not got it yet to try.
do you think that won’t work? Most are in HD.
It definitely won’t work on HD recordings because of encryption.

For a while I have been noticing occasional breakup on recordings and wonder if it is due to excessive signal strength. I have always seen Quality shown as 100% with Signal being about 86%, varying slightly over the various Mux.
I am wondering if 86% is borderline excessive and would be interested to hear what others see as too high.
I have just fitted an adjustable attenuator which I have had in the drawer for a while, so I can tweak the signal.
I usually advise aiming for 80% signal strength but if you have a variable attenuator then I would suggest you experiment. I would expect a any signal strength above 50% to give 100% quality in most cases. Another possible cause of occasional breakup is a hard drive that is reallocating sectors; taking the hard drive out and looking at the SMART data would tell you if this is the case.

The big problem with copying from Aura to PC is the slow speed. The file transfer starts out at about 15 MB/sec but after a few GB it drops to less than 1 MB/sec. If I pause the copy, wait ages for the play button to appear in the progress popup, and click play (to undo the pause), it starts again at 15 MB/sec.
The PC and Aura are on the same wi-fi network and I also have an Ethernet cable from Aura to router. TaskManager shows all traffic is across the Ethernet link.
Have you considered using FTP for the file transfer which in my experiments gave a pretty steady speed?

Is there a way to copy the key from the old box to the new box ?
What went wrong with the old box? I think you have more chance of getting that to work so that SD recordings can be decrypted than the possibility of finding a way to decrypt the recordings.

Hi I have a issue with my Humax 4000t when I switch it on the Humax screen appears but does not go on to the second stage, pause for 15 seconds or so than restarts over and over.
The first thing I would try (as a diagnostic) is to open the Humax up and disconnect the hard. If the box will then boot up properly it suggests the issue is with the hard drive.
