One thing I have noticed though. If the hdmi and composite cables are plugged in together. I can’t get a signal through the composite connection.

Vague recollection but I seem to recall there is a setting on the FVP to allow signal to both HDMI and composite which defaults to off.

Which leads me to think that maybe the hdmi takes precedence over composite. If that is the case, why is it receiving that the hdmi is plugged in, but not producing a signal. Maybe the signal part of the hdmi is damaged.

I certainly don’t know but it does look increasingly likely that signal part of the HDMI isn’t working properly.

I have an old Foxsat HDR box do you reckon it might be worth trying that out?

You lose nothing by trying it.

I can get BBC 1 on some of the regional channels.

Etc I can get 954 but not 953. 950 and 951 are ok but not 952 (which is the east mids channel)

At least I can get BBC 1 for now…

Some BBC 1 SD channels are horizontally polarised and some vertically.

    I’m in the west midlands.

Think you may have something there with the polarisation…

BBC 1 West Midlands is vertically polarised.

I can’t get BBC 1 in hd or SD.

I can’t get BBC 2 in hd but it’s ok in SD (channel 180)

No ITV hd but ok in SD (channel 111)

C4 is ok in both hd and sd

    5hd is fine too.

BBC news hd is ok also

I’ve just done a box reset and checked cables etc still no change. And when I was restarting the box after the reset the signal test came up fine.

    All a bit strange…

BBC 1 SD is regional; which region do you normally receive? The thing that strikes me is that the channels you can get are all Horizontal polarisation while the ones you can’t get are Vertical polarisation. I suspect an LNB problem; not expensive and not difficult to replace.

Odd thing is I’m getting most other channels perfectly fine…

So give us a few examples of channels that you can receive and those that you can’t (say half a dozen of each).

Unfortunately now I’ve completely lost BBC1 both hd and sd. Just not receiving a signal at all.

It could be a cable problem (particularly the connections), an LNB problem, a dish alignment problem or a problem with the box. Either work through the list of possibilities in the order I set out or get a specialist in.

The resolution on the box is set at 576i. It’s the only setting available. Maybe because of using composite cables.

So temporarily disconnect the composite cable and connect the HDMI cable and see if you can change the resolution.

In September 2022, all of my recordings disappeared from the planner… but I’ve managed to get them back.

I’m posting this here because it might be able to help someone else incase they get the same fault.

In Settings/System Settings – it showed the message “Connect a USB hard drive (HDD) to the box to be able to record programmes and pause live TV”

This is a well known early symptom of a hardware problem that will probably get worse and ultimately lead to permanent inability to access recordings.

    Any suggestions ?

I haven’t tried the Apple TV+ app but there are regular reports here of it not performing correctly so you are not alone.

I’ve tried the box on another TV using hdmi and have the same problem, so I’m guessing it must be the hdmi port.

Unusual problem but I think you have demonstrated that must be the case.

Does anyone know if these can be repaired/replaced

You could try talking to https://www.digirepairs.co.uk/product/humax-set-top-box-repair-booking/ phone 028 6632 7293 who do a fixed fee, no fix no fee, repair service on Humax boxes for £69.95 or Humax do a refurbished FVP-5000T with a years warranty for £99 https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished.html

Please let us know how you get on.

I’ve tried all sorts. Sometimes it comes back in sync, but this doesn’t last for very long.

I agree with you; I couldn’t find a reliable solution on the HDR-2000T or HDR-FOX T2. Both the FVP-5000T and the Aura handle subtitles reliably.

It sounds like the App has some serious limitations, so I may just not bother.

The cheapest way to get a recorder with good remote scheduling would be a second hand HDR-FOX T2 and install the custom firmware. This allows recordings to be set as individual or series recordings or scheduled recordings cancelled. The downside is that the HDR-FOX T2 has been out of production for quite some time so buying a second hand box is a bit of a lottery.

I’m not sure what you mean by “players” in this context.

I meant he apps that will stream content such as BBC iPlayer, ITV hub, Channel 4, My 5, UKTV play. So if you do miss something there is a good chance that you can stream it instead.

Just to be absolutely clear before I go to the expense of a new PVR – the “HUMAX Live TV for Phone” app will allow me to use my phone to view schedules and set up recordings as long as my Humax is connected to the Internet via my WiFi, and, obviously, I have an Internet connection on my phone. I’ve been looking on GooglePlay and the reviews aren’t filling me with confidence.

Which box have you been looking at? I am currently using an Aura and do occasionally set remote recordings from my phone which so far have worked. There are some limitations such as not being to set series record and not being able to delete scheduled recordings. Currently all the players on the Aura that I have tried still work. The earlier FVP-5000T is starting to lose players; ITV hub goes at the end of this month.

Probably a silly question, but have you looked at the sources list on the TV to check that it is still looking at the correct HDMI input?
