In theory SD files can be saved from the internal disk to a USB drive. Such files are decrypted on copy and the associated files are updated accordingly.

A decrypted SD .ts file can be obtained quite quickly via the DLNA server.

Another thing I thought of that may be an issue of my own making is the key for the encryption / decryption process. Seeing as I have both downgraded and re-upgraded the firmware, I wonder if the lack of HDD detection may have caused it to create a new key alienating files previously created.

I don’t think there is any evidence that has ever happened. On the HDR-FOX T2 the key is derived from the box serial number and the MAC address so is unique to each box.

Do you happen know if it is possible to share SD recording from one machine with other 5000Ts? If so then this shouldn’t effect SD recordings, but I have a nasty feeling.

I don’t think so for the reason given above.

Oh I also tried factory reset with format HDD but as the PVR doesn’t seem to see the HDD so no formatting took place. The drive does spin up however.

I don’t know what else to try. If anyone has any suggestions, please suggest away. I see the HDR1000S had a problem with a resistor, but I haven’t found anything similar here regarding the 5000T that wasn’t cured with a reboot.

The HDR-1000S problem was at one time suggested to be a resistor but the current thought is that the CPU needs reballing. I haven’t seen it suggested for the FVP-5000T.

If I have no luck getting the PVR to recognise an internal drive, she can at least watch what she has recorded via an external drive. I’m unsure if her HD recordings will work that way though?

There is certainly some capability for playing video from attached USB storage, see page 16 of the user manual. My concern is that the content (both SD and HD) will be encrypted and I am not sure if playing from the USB storage will remove the encryption.

I’m using an HDMI switcher box to allow me to make these extra connections but noticed that the picture resolution occasionally switches to 576i… It’s a One for All box, a bit cheap to be honest. And it’s a bit of a sod to switch between devices.

Any recommendations for a decent switcher?

Sorry I don’t have much experience with HDMI switchers so hopefully someone else can answer; I will be interested to see what the recommendations are.

Thinking about it, you might get more response if you started a new thread.

However I’ve noticed that both remote controls operate each boxes! (,I.e Using the Freeview remote to power up the Freeview box also switches on the Freesat box…and vice versa…)

You can change the remote control code set on one of the boxes. The instructions for changing on the Freesat HDR are at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/multi-code-function-hdhdr-remote-2

When installed and formatted there are 3 partitions on the disk, one of which is labelled reserve and takes about 110GB.

So how much free space do you have?

The next issue is if the TV channel change the recording the box will still record at the same time and the box does not update the information.

There have been a lot of short notice changes recently and the FVP-5000T has never been good at coping with them; nothing you can do about it. I reported the problem to Humax in some detail with comparisons (with the much better at coping with this) HDR-FOX T2 and I was told my observations would be passed to the software team but nothing has changed.

We tried by going to Deleting Files on the Media List page and pressing opt+ but the delete window is not highlighted. Any sugggestions please.

The OPT+ button is definitely the one to use. Try putting the box into standby, waiting until the hard drive stops spinning and then turn the electric power off for 10 seconds, restart the box and see if you can delete now.

I took advice from some members here and bought a Humax WiFi-LAN compatible dongle “WHYFi USB Wireless Network Adaptor WHY0002” to connect my HDR-1800T receiver (purchased November 2021) to the internet.

Once inserted there are two options: Configure WiFi and Configure LAN. You are instructed to select “Configure WiFi”, but this is not highlighted and will not engage when attempts are made to select it.

Can I check, did you have a network cable plugged into the Humax whilst you were trying to configure the dongle? If so unplug the cable and try again.

Update: Tried another box and had the same issue. So replaced LNB today. Fixed.

Thanks for coming back and reporting the outcome; excellent news.

    Thanks for the advice Martin.

I am always nervous about giving advice about satellite reception issues as I have never owned a satellite receiver but really glad it worked out well.

No nothing, it won’t even let me in to do a HDD test

I think that means the hard drive isn’t working. If the box is still under warranty get it exchanged.

done a factory reset + HDD format.still the same ,

Did you get an error message when trying to format the HDD?

wondering if it’s a failed HDD.I hear absolutely nothing from the box at all. Not even from boot up.

If you can’t hear the HDD then it is quite likely that the hard drive has failed.

Have all your tests so far been with the same HDMI cable ?

If the answer is yes – try a different cable.

The first post in the thread says “I’ve swopped/tested all the cables and they are all good.”
