    I tried default settings…no joy

How do I format the drive?

The last sentence of my previous post: “format the drive from the HDD Control menu item in the Record menu”.

Yes it can play existing recordings

    Stopped recording beginning of December

First thing to try would be a Reset to Default Settings; this will delete the schedule for future recordings but not the existing recordings. If that doesn’t fix the problem then the next thing to try would be to first watch any important recordings and then format the drive from the HDD Control menu item in the Record menu (this will of course delete the recordings).

My faithful Humax 9300t has stopped recording, if set via timer gets ready to record but doesn’t record and when press record fir manual record it doesn’t record

Can you play existing recordings? How much of the disk is shown as being used?

I think they failed because at different times they had been used in a wooden tv cabinet with a glass front door and although there is a 65mm approx cable hole at the back there was probably not enough passage of air through the cabinet.

Our HDR-FOX T2 has sat in a similar cabinet for six years without problem.

I replaced the fans in both Fox T2’s and the fans did not work, even when the machines were quite warm.

The Humax fan control strategy is a bit odd; the fan stays off until the hard drive reaches (I think) 55 degC and then turns on full blast. The custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2 allows a more nuanced approach and I have the fan set to run at about 50% of full speed continuously that keeps the hard drive at a nice constant 40 degC.

I have had two Fox T2 pvrs both of which failed due to overheating but they were great during the 5 years I had them.

As a matter of interest; what were the failure symptoms on the HDR-FOX T2s and why do you think it was overheating?

Start by telling us which model of Humax box you have.

I have transferred items from FVP4000T to external hard drive, which were recorded in SD.

Have you transferred just the .ts file or all the additional files for a recording? If you have all the files then try deleting the additional files leaving just the .ts file and see if it plays then (the additional files are in a different format on the two machines).

The machine is a DTR-T1000. It has a large button on front with an orange glow around it when on standby. When pressed to switch on it glows blue. Mine sometimes wont switch on and I have to do a cold start.

Problems coming out of standby are a commonly reported problem on the DTR-T1000. My guess is that it will slowly get worse and eventually refuse to start up. The common notion is that this is a hardware problem and some people (but not all who have tried) have been able to fix the problem by changing capacitors but this does need a fair bit of technical knowledge.

Either Humax are post dating software or the units are able to automatically download software and update themselves as my Foxsat HDR did.

Yes of course it auto updates (nprmally via the Internet rather than OTA) although I thought there was normally a warning message before installation. I am slightly puzzled that you were surprised.

Try the FAQ entry on manual tuning for the HDR-FOX T2 at http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/transmitters#post-2336 which will also apply to the HDR-1800T and the HDR-2000T.

These instructions are now getting rather old and theses days there is potentially more than one HD multiplex but they are still (I think) basically correct.

Could anyone tell me picture goes off then on again when watching

Could you tell us a bit more about the problem please. How often does the loss of picture occur? When you lose picture, how long does it go off for? What is the make and model of your TV?

I was just turning it off at the switch, thinking it would be ok. It is a 2000T 1 TB. I can’t see my recordings to copy them unto USB.

As it is a quiet time of year I would be prepared to have a look at your HDR-2000T free of charge if you are prepared to post it to me; send me a Private Message if you want to take up the offer.

I have tried to put in my password which is 50 characters long, took me ages but low & behold the humax only accepts around 40 characters! what a waste of time. Have I got to change my password for a shorter one & change all my TVs, Phones, Panasonic recorder, router relays 4 computers etc just to use the wifi on the Humax?

I think this has been reported before on other models of Humax recorder. I agree with you that it is silly that Humax don’t support the maximum length of a WPA-PSK password which is 64 characters. Barry could this be raised with Humax? However it certainly won’t be changed in the short term so yes I think you will have to change it on your other kit or connect via Homeplugs or a WiFi bridge.

Hi welcome to our forum. Copy them to a usb drive and after the format copy them back again. It will take a while :-)

How would you copy recordings to a USB drive if the box can’t see its internal hard drive?
