Scheduled programme duration doesn’t usually vary much.

I beg to differ; News programmes and Sports programmes quite frequently change their duration and often at very short notice.

but over the last few days, I set padding of 2 minutes at both start and end, and it still lost the end of a couple of recordings.

Could you quote the name of the program, channel, date and time please. Setting padding very definitely doesn’t guarantee anything and there are plenty of circumstances where two minutes padding is not enough.

FVP 4000T which has the latest software has done this crashing then re booting every few weeks still, but twice in this past week.

It is crashing as if the power was shut off, and then re boots.

Could this be the box thinking there is a power surge?

I doubt it; far and away the most likely explanation is that the Humax software is crashing and then restarting. The problem is working out what is causing it to crash. How is the Humax connected to the Internet?

    Dodgy handset button?

Either that or something else in the room upsetting the Humax; if it happens again take the remote out of the room and see if the problem stops.

Is it a one-off glitch or a sign of worse to come?

The symptoms you describe suggest the Humax software crashed and the box restarted. I would say once in 18 months is not unexpected for any of the Humax recorders. My guess is that it is not a sign of problems to come.

Anything I can do to stop it happening again?

    I doubt it.

I have also set up the LiveTV App on my iPhone.

However, when I try to play recordings on my iPhone I get the following message: “Cannot play DTCP files on mobile.”

DTCP is the encryption used to protect HD recordings. Is it HD recordings you are trying to play? Do SD recordings work?

    Right OK that’s interesting.

Do you think I should try a reboot to see if that alters things or just wait a few days and see if things sort themselves out? I’ve never experienced this problem before so I don’t know what is best to do.

Try cancelling the recordings you have set for ’24 hours in A&E’ and then resetting them. It may be that Channel 4 have fixed an error.

I have ’24 Hours in A&E’ set up on Wednesday 9pm on Channel 4 on series link. Next weeks edition 19th February isn’t showing as part of the series and it’ll only let me set it up as ‘record programme’.

I set up the recording in both SD and HD and series link appears to be working properly (Chesterfield transmitter).

Suffice to say I had nothing back from the beeb…

I would be surprised if you don’t hear anything but I guess they may have had quite a few complaints and may send a response to everyone when resolved.

I have replaced the disk in my 9150T but want to get the programs off the old disk. My computer runs linux Kubuntu 18.04. The disk is connected. The file manager doesn’t pick it up, but gparted shows sdb2 as ‘unallocated’. I don’t know what parameters to use with humaxrw, as running it without says ‘humax disk not found’

Any suggestions welcome. I cannot find instructions for humaxrw.

For basic help on the commands use the -h paramater to humaxrw. For Linux you use the standard device names eg /dev/hda, /dev/hdb (or /dev/sda or …).

When I try to watch any of these live, the picture is perfect but the sound stutters every 3-4 seconds. However, if I record these channels, the recording plays back faultlessly. The same channels can be viewed live on my LG TV with no stuttering whatsoever.

I haven’t seen this problem with my FVP-5000T and LG TV. The only thought I have is that there is a known issue with sound stuttering when playing content from an HRD-FOX T2 to modern LG TVs and so this might be a rather different manifestation of that problem. That problem was one of the main reasons for me buying the FVP. Sorry no real help.

Thank you, I did think the RAM was low but machine does look old, so understandable. Will try it but if I lose channels I regularly watch, won’t be beneficial.

You can tell which channels are carried by which multiplexes by looking at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/channels/channel_listings I would suggest the BBC A mux, the DS3&4 mux and one other mux.
