Am i correct in thinking i can connect a external HDD via USB to my Humax?

Can i record TV programs to it?

As far as I know the answer is no.

If i can, can i then plug the HDD into my computer which has a DVD writer and burn recorded programs from the HDD to disc?

As you have more than one HDR-FOX T2 you might want to pop over to https://hummy.tv and investigate the custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2 which will help you to do what you want (without changing the standard user interface).

The 7500T is connected to the TV with an HDMI, cable, antenna and network cable (not wi-fi).

Are you saying that you have a network cable connecting the TV and Humax? That doesn’t sound right to me; the network cable from the Humax should be connected to the router.

I might be wasting my money with a wifi extender, as I require a signal at rear of the house, in an extension, which is on a different fuse to the rest of the house. I think that an extender has to be on the same circuit.

You are talking about Wi-Fi extenders that rely on passing the data part of the way over the electrical wiring. There are also Wi-Fi extenders (sometimes called WiFi repeaters) that work by receiving and rebroadcasting the wireless signal which might be more appropriate in your case.

So i have a HDR FOX T2, a HDR 1800T and a FVP 5000T. All in different parts of the house with thereown coaxils.

My question is… is there any way that a program recorded on one box can be viewed via another box?

Could i connect them via the ethernet cables???

    Is it possible?

Yes if you have each of them connected to your router by ethernet cables or WiFi then (subject to some limitations) you can play content from one box on another using the DLNA capability. On the HDR-FOX T2 and the HDR-2000T you need to turn on content sharing (Menu button > Settings>Internet setting then set Content sharing on. On the FVP-5000T you need to Press Red Freeview button >Settings. Advanced settings> Set network server on and select a time period during which it will be available. You can then play content from another box by pressing the Media button and the then the Blue button to allow you to use content from the network (remember to switch back to HDD if you want to watch content on the local box). The limitations are (I think): FVP will play HD and SD content from an HDR-FOX T2 or another FVP but only SD content from and HDR-2000T. The HDR-FOX T2 will play SD and HD content from another HDR-FOX T2 but only SD content from an HDR-2000T or FVP. Come back with questions when you have tried it.

If you change this back to freesat mode hopefully epg and everything else will return to normal.

Graham, he said that the postcode wasn’t recognised; wouldn’t that suggest a dish alignment problem?

The transmitter in the next field is a radio transmitter. One if two wuthin half a mile.

Emley Moor is also to be seen from my Aerial and is about 19 miles. There us another about 3/4 of a Mike Cross the valley but its beam misses my house.

Ok so 54% seems reasonable then.

Thinking back. When you have done a channel search you are kdftceithno option to proceed if you are unaware what the X is for. I could not see how to proceed so I just pressed the off button.

I suspect you were being asked whether you wanted to save the results of the retune so hardly surprising it wasn’t successful if you just switched off.

The channel into on BBC1 Shows strength at 54%

    Quality at 100%

I thought you said previously you were very close to a transmitter? 54% is a perfectly workable signal strength but surprisingly low. I am line of sight to the Chesterfield low power transmitter and get a signal strength of around 70%.

Too strong a signal can be as bad.

Please tell us what is your signal strength as reported by the Humax on BBC One (Press red Freeview Play button, select Settings> Channel settings> Signal Test). Knowing this will allow us to advise you in an informed way.

Like digital interference such as you’d get from a poor reception.

I suspect it may be that the cable I have connecting my external tv aerial to the Humax is low quality and may be affected by the wi-if signal but wondered if anyone had any thoughts before I go buying replacement cables.

I agree that interference is the most likely explanation and a new high quality aerial lead would be the first thing I would try. Also make sure all the cables are separated from each other.

I could do this with my old HDR 2000T but not with this FVP 5000T with this they sll seem to be in one file.

I assume rather than files you mean directories (or folders); you can’t create directories or folders on an FVP-5000T unfortunately.

We use YouTube, Netflix, Amazon. And we could use the catch-up players which aren’t iPlayer… but very rarely do so.

Yes I think you are Ok providing you don’t use the catch-up players to stream live content.

On a 2000T Youview the picture appears too wide for my Tv screen this also affects youview menus which run off the side. I’m guessing it has to do with screen ratio or display format.

Try the “Wide” button on the remote control or Menu button>Settings>Preferences>Video.

And the lazy aerial fitter will just align the new aerial with everyone else’s, without checking.

But most of the other houses are pointing in the same direction. There is something odd about the signal strength/quality results which could well be interference; one might hope that a competent person familiar with the area would know the correct solution.

Still not working – does anyone know if where you live makes any difference ?

I would be surprised if where you live matters; could it be some sort of routing problem only affecting some internet providers? My internet connection is via a Plusnet FTTP trial product.
