    Hey all,

Our old Humax is acting up about a second after booting, it switches to a blank white screen. I tested it with different HDMI inputs and another TV, and everything else works fine.

Please could you tell us which model of Humax PVR you have?

The PVR is on its last legs. My question is if I buy a HDR-FOX T2 on ebay can I play the films I have saved on an external USB hard drive.

Are the films saved as SD or HD recordings? If they are SD and you copied them direct to the USB hard drive then you should be able to play them. If they are HD they will be encrypted and the only way to play them will be by using the custom firmware. Try asking at https:/hummy.tv

My DTR T2000 needed to be re-tuned following a channels number change.

Following the re-tune the channel appears but does not actually play.

Please could you tell us which channel is problematic?

I have recently bought a Humax 1100S freesat box on Ebay. The box has now lost all of our recordings so I suspect the HDD is on the blink unfortunately.

There is a well known problem with the HDR 1100S that causes a loss of communication between the motherboard and the hard drive. You need to test the hard drive to see if it is faulty or it is the loss of communication problem.

I have a Humax 1800 T freeview box in working order.

Is it possible to use the HDD from this box in the 1100S?

I think the 1800T will have a 2.5″ drive whereas the 1100S will have a 3.5″ drive so you it isn’t a straightforward swap.

HDR1100S in Scotland, box has my postcode OK.

It’s possible I’ve not used STV player before but I thought I had.

Nonetheless last night I attempted to use it.

STV player startup (now) requires a postcode. Either from On Demand or TV guide. A postcode with a green tick is already filled in on that page and an accept button highlit. However clicking OK on the remote doesn’t do anything.

You might want to check with STV support as to whether STV player is still supported on the HDR-1100S.

I’ve fitted an attenuator but lowest signal strength I can get is 90% might need to purchase a better one

Has it made any difference? Whilst I would normally advise going a bit lower than 90% (typically 80% – 85%) I would have expected you would see an improvement if signal strength is the problem.

If it is a tuning issue then a quicker way should be to do an automatic tune with the SMART option (which is default) disabled.

I have a labgear mast amp boosting the main aeriel

The LG TV has a signal test feature and its saying 90-100 % signal strength

I have tried resetting HUmax to factory defaults.

I am trying all of the above in a new house. Previous location was fine on the HUmax

The first thing to check would be that the problem isn’t with the aerial connection to the Humax (damaged cable, plugged input into output socket etc).

On the channels you can tune what does the Humax say about the signal strength (Settings> Channel settings> Signal test)?

I’m having a rather odd problem in that I randomly appear to get an error screen when powering on my box.

I agree it is an odd problem. I don’t recollect seeing it reported previously.

The error is on a black screen and shows the following…

    boot FAILED!

    try powering up again.

verify usb-micro connection to allow fastboot mode enter (if applicable).

force recovery mode: press+hold front panel soft key while powering up.

connect serial console for additional debug information.

Again that is a very odd message if it is from the Aura. What make and model is the AV receiver? How is the Aura connected to the AV receiver and how is the AV receiver connected to the TV?

[Defragmentation – when a hard disk continuously saves and deletes to the same area, files get very fragmented which causes files to be slow to access and more prone to disk errors and file retrieval problems.]

Fragmentation was certainly a problem with FAT32 file systems. The Aura uses a Linux file system and recordings are large files. Also the modern hard drives and CPU performance mean that the reading and writing data on the Aura is not a limiting factor so my opinion, for what little it is worth, is defragmentation isn’t necessary on the Aura.

As there seems to be no option to defragment the Aura internal HDD, Is it possible to back up the recordings to an external Hard disk drive, so that the Aura internal HDD can be reformatted?

Why do you want to defragment the hard drive?

Is the ITV1/+1/3 blank screen the same as the ITV Be blank screen? If so, there maybe light at the end of the tunnel.

I would have expected that there would be a lot more reports if the ITV1 blank screen problem was widespread.

It’s a right pain. Rarely does FTP work straight away when I want it.

I don’t use FTP much but I have always found it works first time. I tried a test connection and it failed but then I remembered I had done a reset a few months ago; went to settings and FTP was off, I turned it back on and then it the connected first time.
