InactiveEarlier I was recording Pointless on BBC1 finishing at 1800 and also had a scheduled recording of Eggheads on BBC2 starting at 1800 both with a short buffer, so that there was a short overlap – but only of two recordings.
I then tried to schedule a manually created recording from 1759 on BBC1 for 60 minutes to cover the Main News and London News. The box (5000T) refused to do it. However it allowed a 60m schedule starting at 1800 exactly.
As the box has 3 tuners, can anyone explain this behaviour?

ParticipantThe perils of not using accurate recording ? Try setting auto for start and stop times. With padding the start and stop times are set in stone (scheduled adjusted by padding).

InactiveOK Graham. I have set it to Auto and will try the same recording tonight, once Pointless has started, the same as I did last night when the issue happened.

InactiveI have just done a few experiments and it appears that the box will not allow overlapping recordings on the same channel, even though there are unused tuners available.
I tried setting 1759-1859 on BBC1 again (padding now set to Auto) and it failed. I also tried 1829-1929 on BBC2 HD (overlapping with the Eggheads recording) and that failed too. However, the same period on BBC2 SD was allowed.
As I have deleted BBC1 HD because of that perishing “Watch in HD” message I cannot use that for Pointless.

InactiveAm I missing something here?
I don’t understand why you don’t simply have all these programmes on a series or single record from the EPG. I just tried setting up a schedule for all the shows you mentioned via the EPG and my 4000T accepted them with no problem.

InactiveYes, I do have most things, including Pointless and Eggheads, set up as a series.
The two news programmes I only record if I am not going to be able to watch them live and prefer to have them recorded straight through the whole hour instead of getting broken in two at the join That you cannot do from the EPG.

You can set it from the epg and edit the reservation to convert it into a manual event (with a repeat pattern if you wish).
All the Humax recorders insist on using the same tuner for back to back recordings on the same channel.

InactiveThanks Graham
The last sentence answers it all. I must just learn to work around the restriction that causes.

InactiveSupplementary Question:
I have finished watching a series which has completed. In the Schedule it is still shown and is marked “Getting information fo…”. I try to delete it and, when asked, confirm that I want to delete it, but it still remains. The same happens if I select the entry and then select “Cancel whole series” except it doesn’t ask for confirmation, it just does nothing.
Why does it not go away? I can delete an active scheduled series, but not an expired one. Will it disappear on its own eventually?

They get deleted after 13 wks of not finding a new recording.
I just deleted a few though just by pressing + and OK twice

InactiveThanks again Graham.
I am just not used to a box which seems so temperamental. As well as the two oddities described here, it keeps on forgetting the channel logos, they just seem to come and go at random. Also, I have lost access to iPlayer and the other catchups except via the EPG. And then there is that perishing “Watch in HD” message which is a disgrace.
I feel so suspicious of what it is going to do next.
My Topfield, now dead, seemed a bit unpredictable at times, but it was nothing like this. I may see if I can get it fixed.

InactiveTo get your logos and players back, just delete the cookies and they will magically appear. I have to do this on an almost daily basis.
To delete the cookies:
Freeview Play button, then Up to ‘i’, press + then choose Yes and finally press OK.
I’ve given up on expecting any of these bugs to get fixed, they seem to be getting more rather than less. You used to be able to delete waiting schedules, but now I have the same problem where I cant. The only way is for a factory reset which is ridiculous. I know they disappear after 13 week, but you should still be able to do your own house keeping.
The Watch in HD doesn’t bother me as I watch everything in HD, but it goes away after a few seconds anyway.

InactiveThanks Harters. I am fairly sure I tried deleting cookies previously but I cannot remember how I did, though I don’t think it helped.
When I go to Freeview Play, I cannot see anything marked “i” to select – is there another step you missed out, or is its absence yet another bug?
Edit: I found it – you have to go to Players first. Deleted cookies – no difference.
Edit2: Actually, all the logos are there at the moment, but they may not have been missing right now anyway as they come and go. The icons for the players are still missing though. I have got the ones I am not interested in – YouTube, Netflix etc, but not iPlayer nor the ITV, Ch4, Ch5 equivalents. That applies to the main Home page where they used to be along the bottom and the “Players” page where there is just a row of large greyed out boxes.

InactiveI don’t mind that the Channel Idents aren’t always there in Recordings, Guide and Schedule, although all three are fully populated at the moment, as it doesn’t affect the box’s operations, though of course they should be there.
But I too don’t have the BBC, ITV etc. players, and neither unplugging, nor deleting cookies brings them back. This is more inconvenient as you have to find another way to access them. Fortunately I don’t use them very often so I find the easiest workaround to be using the ‘Search’ function to find the programme I want in the ‘On Demand’ section.
My Dad, who has the same box as me, still has a fully functional Players screen.
I can however still delete programmes from my recording schedule using either method.

InactiveThanks Stephenesque. Yes, I can still delete a programme from the recording schedule if it is for a programme/series which is currently in the EPG. The problem is with deleting series entries when the series has finished, eg. the three part programme last week about Stephen Lawrence.
Edit: Just tried it again and the expired series deletion is working now. I wonder if that was sorted by removal of the cookies.
