I have just read the biggest load of nonsense I’ve read in a while on the YouView community forum.

    Quote:
I’m afraid the Humax (BT) YouView and new Humax Freeview Playback boxes record Live TV to a memory chip and actual recordings to the Hard Disk.

I’ve confirmed that’s how it works on the Humax’s Freeview Playback boxes

Absolute rubbish as far as the Freeviw playback unit (FVP 4000T) is concerned, and for that matter every freeview/freesat PVR manufactured by Humax, certainly from the 9200 onwards.

Live tv (buffer) is recorded to a partition on the HDD named .tsr (time shift recording)

I do wish people who do not have a clue what they are talking about would….. insert your own explitive :-)

The buffer contents can be transferred to a recording by simply pressing the rec button, the current programme and buffer contents will be saved to the HDD.

If the programme you want to record in retrospect has finished and the next one started, is there anyway of recording it or will the record button only record the current programme?

I’ll have to carry out more tests tomorrow to be sure, all checks so far have been with only current programme in buffer.

    An update as promised.

Caveat this is only having carried out 2 tests so far….

Pressing record will record the current programme buffer contents from the start – if you have been watching channel from start, and ignores previous programme contents that may be in buffer.

Rewinding the buffer to the beginning of its contents will record the whole buffer (named as current programme) including previous programme if contents are in buffer.

    More tests later to confirm.

    Last update on this one.

Left unit on Cbeebies for an hour, rewound buffer and pressed record, all programmes broadcast in that hour are present in the recording, albeit with the current programme name.

Basically identical to how a HDR FOX T2 works.

Only if taking in isolation, as the HDR-FOX T2 always needs to be rewound to record any of the buufer. See the last paragragh of post #1.

Also no one has reported whether or not the FVP-4000T uses AR for its stop time – the HDR-FOX T2 uses the billed scheduled time instead on any AR stop time. Example: An HDR-FOX T2 instant recording of the programme prior to BBC1’s ‘The One Show’ will almost always record some of ‘The One Show’ as the ‘The One Show’ almost always starts earlier than its billed time.

Like some other Humax boxes, instant recording durations can be extended by pressing record a second time on a HDR FOX T2.

    Anyone tried this on a FVP-4000T ?

Similar on FVP 4000T, press record a second time and then 2 options

    1. use left/right arrows to change ‘record till’ time (10 min jumps)

    or

    2. ‘record til’ end of future programmes which are named for convenience

    For Luke…

It appears to be the same on FVP 4000T using the example you suggested – i.e. local news @ 18:30
