InactiveRecently my Foxsat has been failing on most but not all scheduled recordings.
In Media it shows as 0m with the channel number instead of name and the broken symbol at the end. On clicking I get “Recording has failed. Unknown reason.”
It’s possible this is only happening in Standby, not sure about that. When it should be recording the display lights up and shows the time but not the recording symbol. However, if I switch on, it then starts recording.
I’ve tried checking the drive (including SMART from a PC) which is fine, factory settings reset and reinstalling firmware but no joy. I have the raydon custom firmware but haven’t managed to uninstall it, I can’t see the official version on the Humax site (newer models only).
Any ideas?

ParticipantConnect to the Foxsat using FTP and look at the video folder. Where xxx.ts is the name of a recording what is the file size of xxx.ts, xxx.hmt xxx.nts
Does live pause work ?

InactiveThanks but now I can’t get in! Telnetted earlier and deleted the folder according to instructions to uninstall custom f/w. Didn’t realise the update file I had was custom not official. So uninstall failed and custom message still appears during boot. But now I can’t connect using telnet, ftp or samba (don’t remember but assuming it’s samba, using Windows File Explorer).
FTP gets “ECONNREFUSED – Connection refused by server”.

PS I’ve rebooted — well from standby — several times, rechecking IP addr.

InactiveCan you connect via http to the Foxsat’s IP address?
If you did delete the install folder then on the next reboot the custom firmware would recreate the folder and install ONLY the basic interface. The full interface can be installed via http to the foxsat ip address.
Can we confirm that you leave the Foxsat in standby overnight?

InactiveOK thanks that would explain it. Have to go out now but will try http etc later. Yes it’s in standby overnight.

In the failed cases there’s only a .hmt file which is 2kb.
Here are the details for a recording that failed to start on time but did start when I switched the box on:
Code:-rw-r–r– 1 root root 4788 Sep 27 12:16 BBC Newsroom Live_2018

How many cables do you have connected ?. Suspect a issue with the second feed from your lnb if you have two. Once you confirm two I will come up with a couple of tests to confirm two good lnb feeds.
Can you confirm you are using an English Postcode during set up ?

Two cables, Scottish postcode.
Tune to 973 BBC 1 Scotland HD start a recording. Enter 304 to move to view Movies4 Men, start a second recording. Enter 957 check you can view BBC 1 NI.
Tuner 1 using Low Band Horizontal. Tuner 2 now using Low Band Vertical.
Only possible if 2nd cable is connected to a working lnb.

InactiveManaged to start the two recordings but it then wouldn’t switch to 957.
When I press i for info both signal strength bars are on full.
System/Diagnostics is greyed out.

Faulty cable or lnb. Try swapping the two cables and repeat the test. Two recordings are from Low Band Horizontal transponders, to get 957 requires tuner 2 to switch lnb to vertical polarisation. Is the dish easily accessible ?
September 28, 2018 at 12:44 pm #87830Anonymous
InactiveI swapped cables and the test result was the same. The dish is not accessible without a ladder which I don’t have. However, there’s a number of connections that I can reach, maybe the prob’s with one of them. I have a signal meter as used for dish alignment but might have difficulty finding it. Really don’t want to bring in a professional except as last resort. What would you suggest as next step?
September 28, 2018 at 1:04 pm #87831Anonymous
InactiveFirstly check the LNB’s are connected to LNB1 IN and LNB2 In (and NOT LMB1 OUT).
I am surprised that the results were the same as this shows both feeds are working – The implication being perhaps only one was connected at installation time (or last reset).
I would take a picture of your recording schedule and do a reset to default. Watch carefully for a message that confirms two cables and not one.
September 28, 2018 at 4:23 pm #87832Anonymous
InactiveDid the reset, “One Cable”.
I guess I need to try to find the signal meter and check the intermediate connections.
