    Hello

My beloved Humax PVR 9300-T has alas after many faithful years gone to PVR heaven so I’m now looking for a new PVR Freeview recorder.

I have a Nikkai video sender which I need to attach to my PVR so I will require a PVR which has both a scart input and also a HDMI input (for my TV).

Can anybody recommend a Freeview PVR recorder with both a Scart and HDMI input please?

Thank you in advance for any help/recommendations.

There are no current PVRs with HDMI and scart inputs.

There used to be such an animal now long ago extinct.

They can only record from a digital broadcast stream (satellite or terrestrial). They only have digital or analogue outputs. If you want analogue outputs (scart) they are a vanishing breed. Most all only have a digital output for video and audio (HDMI) and possibly digital audio out (usually optical S/Pdif – aka Toslink).

Thank you Graham that’s helpful to know.

My old Humax PVR 9300-T can still receive channels on my TV (it just can’t record anymore) and it can still send the TV channels to other televisions around my house so if I was to purchase a TV aerial splitter I could then still use my old PVR for my old portable TVs and purchase a new PVR recorder for the recording couldn’t I?

I wouldn’t connect my old PVR to my main TV (all it needs is the TV aerial) and instead would connect my new PVR to my main TV but it would also need the TV aerial but the aerial splitter would mean both PVRs would receive the aerial signal.

Is my thinking correct and are there any aerial splitter you would recommend please?

Or maybe I purchase a second hand Freeview PVR recorder with scart and HDMI until my old portable televisions no longer work.

Thank you for your help and advice.

You’ve asked for a PVR with Scart and HDMI inputs, but the situation you’ve described is for a PVR with Scart and HDMI outputs. That is, it outputs a signal to a TV or Whatever over Scart and HDMI.

It’s the TV or Video Sender which would need appropriate inputs.

What may help is to use an RCA to SCART cable with a modern recorder such as the Humax FVP5000T which has RCA Phono outputs. That should allow you to output from the 5000T to your video sender’s input. Not sure if that would cover your requirement, but possibly.

The quoted example may, or may not, be the best choice, I don’t know, but others are probably around from other sources.

Edit: Not sure if there are different versions to cover sending from RCA to SCART (as you would probably need) and from SCART to RCA, but I think there are switchable versions. However, if you try this route take care to get a suitable one.

The only problem with HDMI to SCART is that would then not allow for the TV HDMI input to be connected to the single HDMI output on the PVR without having a splitter as well.

Thank you all very much for your advice and for recommending the various products I need to purchase which I think are the following but I would be grateful for the confirmation.

    • New PVR Freeview recorder (this is likely to have just one HDMI point at the back) so will also need to purchase the following:

    • Scart to HDMI (to enable me to put the scart lead from my Video sender into it to Scart end to send the signal to my two other portable televisions)

    • HDMI cable (to connect from Scart/HDMI converter into the HDMI splitter)

    • HDMI splitter (as will need to have two HDMI points as need one to connect my main TV to the PVR and the other is needed for the video sender)

Thank you again for your advice and recommendations.

As I mentioned, the latest Humax PVR, the FVP5000T, in addition to the one HDMI output, also has the three RCA Phono sockets, which I use to feed an old DVD recorder using an RCA – SCART lead without the need for any HDMI splitting.

    Thank you for your reply.

My Nikkai video sender uses exactly this product that you suggested:

However, the three cables (red, yellow and white) need to go into the video sender and the scart goes into the PVR so I still need some sort of scart converter which would enable it to go into my PVR hence why I’m looking at the scart/HDMI adaptor.

Regarding PVRs I’m thinking of the Manhattan T3-R which appears to only have the one HDMI socket at the back hence the need for the HDMI splitter too.

Thank you again for your help it is appreciated as I am by no means an expert regarding all this.

Oh well then, if the sender need RCA then what you need is a double ended 3 way RCA cable to connect to something like the FVP5000T, but not for the T3-R.

Regarding watching television on my two portable TVs I was wondering whether buying two Amazon firesticks and two scart/HDMI adaptors may be a better option rather than having all the various adaptors etc connected to my main television and PVR?

I have read some mixed reviews re the scart/HDMI adaptor and was unsure what the quality of the picture would be like on the portable televisions using the Amazon firestick and scart/HDMI adaptor option?

Grateful to hear what you would recommend.

    Thank you
