I’ve recorded a programme in SD on my FoxSat and want to give it to a friend who missed the episode. If I transfer it to a USB drive, can she plug it into her HB 1100S and play it?

simple way to find out. Copy it to a usb stick . Connect it to a PC and use say VLC to try and play it back.

If it does the file is not encrypted. You may need to use a usb Hub on the HB model so you can select a different usb device to the dedicated recording drive.

Its an SD recording, so not encrypted and its an HB 1100S, so no internal drive. I was really asking if both use the same system.

The HB-100sS can record to a usb drive which is specially formatted. If such a drive is connected you need to be able to connect a second drive. I don’t have a HB box. Based on earlier boxes you can use a usb hub to select the USB device with a recording on it. Guessing the HB box should be able to play it. A smart TV with usb may also be able to play the file.

The thread you have posted in is for the HB series of machines.

So now confused. Which machine was used to get the copy and which machine was used to get the copy from. afaik the g2 twin tuner boxes cannot export any recordings at alll.

Recording was made on Foxsat HDR, old but reliable. It can export SD recordings but I want to know if those recordings will play back on my friends HB 1100 S. She never records, so no external drive nor USB.

She is very dubious about putting anything in her machine, so need to know if the recording format is the same and that recording will be recognised.

The recording format should be fine. It’s mpeg 2 video and mpeg1 layer 2 audio in a transport stream container.

I have a hdr-1000S. Plug the stick into the box usb port. A menu should pop up on screeen. Click OK on Video and then OK on the recording file. There is option to copy the recording to the internal Hard Disk

To unmount the usb device. Home settings – System Settings Storage.
