On the DTG website is a banner announcing the winding down of the engineering channel, in preparation for its closure wef 30 April 2018.

All current Humax products can be updated via IP so not an issue.

It would be for those without the box connected to the internet.

Of course Usb update will be available once software is posted to Humax Support site.

Presumably on the basis that only really old boxes have neither a USB or internet update capability and will not have had an update for several years anyway. Makes sense to me.

The other issue is size of update.

There are few set top boxes or TVs without some connectivity now. Even the most basic have USB. Those that don’t have been around for years and don’t need an update.

Those TVs and boxes that are on sale now have update sizes in the multi-megabytes which would take a long time to download over the engineering channel anyway. Those engineering channel updates are costly as well, certainly £000s if you need the whole bandwidth for a big update.

It just makes sense to deliver updates in a quicker, more convenient form.
