    hello,

    I have a HUMAX PVR-9200T.

It emits an incessant hum even when on standby. This has always been the case and it is most annoying as I can hear it at all times.

Obviously I do not want to switch the machine off at the wall as then it means I have to remember to switch it on to record a programe.

What can be done to cancel this noise?

How old is the 9200? The early ones had a fan that ran continuously; you could disconnect the fan or replace it with a quieter type. Alternatively it could be the hard drive you are hearing. It shouldn’t run during standby (except in the 15 minutes before a recording starts and during the recording). If it is the hard drive then try a reset to default settings (which will delete your schedule of future recordings but will leave existing recordings on the hard drive).

    Hi,

    Thank you for your advice.

    I think it’s 7 years old.

I think it is the fan as the noise starts as soon as the machine is switched on at the wall.

There does not appear to be any noticeable difference when the hard drive is in use.

Do you have a guide on how to idle or change the fan and which fan should I use as a replacement?

    Thank you for your help.

Sorry I don’t have any information; I am a bit deaf so these sort of noises don’t bother me. I suggest doing some googling as various people have done it but all the reports I can vaguely recollect are from a long time ago.

    Welcome to the Forum :-)

As Martin states, a long time ago since this problem was muted.

If I remember correctly some had success by fitting something like this:

It was an adjustable zalman fanmate 2 that appeared to be the favourite on the now-defunct hummy.org.

(including post #6 but for many the fan was loader than the HDD).

I could not find an alternative fan thin enough to fit. I ended up using this…..

    Now almost inaudible.

    Thanks folks,

I received and fitted a fanmate 2 in the PVR today and it has certainly reduced the noise coming from the machine.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate your help,

    :D :D :D
