Advised 2.5 HD failed and need to replace. Seems only drives available are refurbed? If I replace drive do I need to format the drive? Is the format software in the humax box or do I need to download it and install? I am not skilled at this and would appreciate any simple help. Failing this what similar receiver/recorder is available at a modest cost. I dont want to send this to become landfill if possible

Can you tell us which model of Humax satellite receiver you have please? We can then recommend a suitable new drive. The software to format the drive is built in and usually when you start the box for the first time after installing the drive it will detect the new hard drive and offer to format it.
