I Have had my Humax Aura almost 2 years but only this month have I used it every day as I had Virgin Medias 360 TV Box but have left Virgin, My apps wasn’t working I emailed Humax support and

they emailed me back with do a factory reset this cured the problem but on some channels the picture pixilates if I reboot it works ok but have to do this every day

its saying update may 16,2024 firmware 00.09.21 is there any newer updates or a fix for this any ideas .

Is it pixellating on all channels or only on certain channels.

What is the Signal Strength and Signal Quality like on the channels that are pixellating.

If the signal strength is over 95% this can cause pixellating and you may require to purchase a

variable control attenuator to pull back the Signal Strength to 90%. They don’t cost much.

Signal Quality should ideally be 100%

If you are using the TV on its own using its own tuner do have signal problems.

Do you know which transmitter your Aura is tuned to and is it the best one that serves your area.

To find out which transmitter is broadcasting in your area click below.

    https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/detailed-transmitter-information

Take note of the multiplex numbers under the N in the black circle.

You can then do a manual tune to those multiplexes.

Make sure the HDMI cable is kept away from the aerial cables as this can cause pixellating and drop outs.

The update you mention was a very small update to the Freeview app to stop the Aura from displaying a black screen

with intermittent audio on a certain multiplex.

The Aura has not had a significant update since August 2021.

There is an update in the pipeline (or so we are led to believe) that will update the Android system,

we are not sure if it will update or fix the many problems the Aura has with its own operating system.

This update is currently in Beta testing.

Forgot to mention that when manually tuning the Aura you need to change the Transmission setting to DVB-T2 for the multiplex that carries the HD channels.

If you go back to the Transmitter information page at the Freeview website the HD channel /multiplex is under the BBC B label, when manually tuning to this multiplex change Transmission to DVB-T2, for all other standard definition multiplexes Transmission needs to be set to DVB-T.

Thank you so much for your reply we are in the midlands and use the Sutton Coldfield transmitter and thought I needed a better Arial and fitted a digital Arial and now have 100% Will give your idea of a variable control attenuator a Ago if it doesn’t work will have to Waite for the update its a shame as I love the Aura and it works perfectly when I reboot But have to do it every day as when I record it pixilates if I don’t .

Is that signal strength or signal quality?

Both are 100% but occasionality the strength goes down to 98% but quality stays at 100% the tv uses the same Arial without any problems the Humax Aura is ok when I reboot but when turned off goes back to pixilation on some channels.

If the Signal Strength is 100% this may well be the cause of the pixellation.

Buy a variable attenuator and wind down the signal strength to between 90 and 95% to see if this improves things, or to a level where the pixellation stops.

Signal Quality should ideally be 100%.

I agree, signal strength may well be saturating the tuners.

I ordered a variable attenuator from eBay and fitted it today but when I turn the signal down I get pixilation on all the channels do you think it could be interference from 4g-5g mobile signals which made me think the aerial had moved in the wind but on checking the signal test I was getting 100% signal but the quality was jumping up and down between 50-90%, main channels were 100/90% thinking of trying a 4G 5G MASTHEAD FILTER if that doesn’t work I will Waite for the update.

Your point of reference is your TV.

    Does your TV suffer pixellation?

The aerial cable going into the Aura is it a good connection with the solid copper core going through the plugs tunnel and producing slightly from the end.

You should only have to turn the attenuator down very slightly to reduce the Signal Strength to 95% and under,

too low and you will encounter poorer signal quality.

    Is the attenuator brand new?

Don’t wait for the update, we’ve been waiting almost a year now and from what I understand it will be an update to the Android operating system which will do nothing to address the many ‘bugs’ within the Auras own operating system and will have nothing to do with the tuners or reception.

yes its a new attenuator I have turned it a bit at a time bit it seems to make the pixelating worse all channels work ok on my tv off the same arial and I have even tried a old Humax out of the loft and this works ok on all channels but its years old and only has a scart socket it must be a glitch on the Humax Aura as if you reboot it will work ok all day until I turn it off thinking of leaving on all the time as if I record and its on standby I cant watch as its pixelating so much but only on certain channels all the HD Channels work fine but all the U&Dave U&Drama

and U& Yesterday Pixelate But work when I reboot Cant work it out.

This is a known problem with some Auras and separate from the tuner overload problem.

There’s never been an official explanation but the rapidly fluctuating signal quality on some SD channels that goes away on a reboot / power cycle only to reappear some minutes/hours later has been mentioned in several AV forums over the years.

Eg the last post in this thread from 2021

Admin edit: Link deleted. does not help.

I suffered from it as well and initially was quite frustrated (swapping cables and adding attenuators) until I read about the same problem in several forums.

I spoke to Richer sounds – who were aware of the problem – and they swapped it for a new one and Ive not had a problem since.

I Have had my Humax Aura over 2 years so out of guarantee but only just using it all the time as I had a Virgin 360 tv box on a 24 month contract but was paying £50.00 a month and only had same channels as Freeview so that’s why I got the Aura to save a bit of money,

And I do love it you can record 3 channels at the same time you can stream on all of my apps pause tv fast forward its just the dreaded pixilation on some channels and then you find out you have recorded and cant watch as the picture is so bad, I Have had a new Arial better coaxial cable only to find out its a doggy Aura Box you would think they would have a firmware fix.

It most certainly does help – the thread started off with an incorrect analysis and as said the final post in that thread is:-

“I had a similar problem with Aura 2Tb. It had fluctuating signal quality but only in the SD channels. Checked signal against 4000T on loop through. I Replaced it with another new Aura at Richersounds. Now no problem at all. Replace your Aura ASAP.”

There are also numerous posts in other forums.
