hi, I have a pc with w7 pro and a pc with w8 pro, a router and a wireless hub setup. All this works fine between all devices but after setting the ip address and turning on samba on the hms 1000t it will connect to the router but it will not show up on the network. I can ping it but typing in the ip address in explorer will return the message “can not connect”

Also sometimes it will show on either pc as a media device (W8) or other device on w7. but never as a drive as the manual suggests

I am not interested in the streaming just a connection to the hard drive in the humax to get to the files.

Can somebody steer me in the right direction please

I don’t know the hms1000t however samba should make it visible on the network. Are there any settings on the unit such as workgroup?

My memory of W7 and W8 is somewhat distant. Are there settings to enable network discovery like later versions. Also is the network type defined as a private network?

    Hi Repassac

    Thanks for your reply.

Samba is turned om om the hms and i can not find any settings for to set a name for a workgroup although i changed the network group name to plshome.

I can change the server name on the hms

you can not initiate network discovery from the hms and from windows doesn’t have any results either.

This the latest info that i can pass on.

If i type \192/168.1.4 in windows explorer i can see the folders on the hms but i an not copy to any of those ( error message is that i have no permission )and the “recorded folder” shows empty.

though the drive is 75% full.

Does this trigger any other thoughts

Is the “network group name” the same as your Windows Workgroup?

Did you restart the hms after the change?

    I don’t know the hms1000t

The HMS-1000T is an Australian model (also known as “4tune”) that pre-dates the UK’s FVP-4000T by about 18 months. The FVP-4000T looks as if it was initially based on the HMS-1000T but adapted for UK’s DTT, UK’s freeview play and only have 3 tuners instead of 4, plus an initial change to the search function.

    Hi Repassac,

Sorry for the daly in answering but my health is not to good right now.

Network discovery is turned on the w7 and w8 pc’s.

I can copy/paste to all drives on the network including usb drives but not to the hms although it shows as a shared drive and it appears that i can not alter the permissions on that drive either

Right now i can see the files in recorded folder on the hms but i still can not copy them to any drive on any pc nor can i use such program as freefilesync for it tells me it can not lock the drive nor the individual files to be copied.

I am getting by with copying the files to a usb external drive connected to the hms but it is slower than growing grass.

What else can you suggest or what other info do you need?

I would recheck your hms networking settings.

Can you access the files via ftp?

Also check you have the latest firmware and that the windows network is set to a private network.

    From the manual:

    File Share

    • SAMBA Server: When SAMBA Server is set to On, the internal HDD can be accessed as a network disk drive from your PC. You can copy the video, music, photo files in the internal HDD to the PC storage.

    • FTP Server: When FTP Server is set to On, you can copy the video, music, photo files in the internal HDD to the PC storage using the FTP client programme.

    • Password: If Password is set, you can access the internal HDD only by entering the password.

    • Download Folder: When Download Folder is set to Enable, you can copy the video, music, photo files in the PC to the download folder in the internal HDD.
