The fact that the HDR1000S is locked down so that it will not transfer recordings onto a USB memory stick, unlike its predecessor, the FoxSat HDR, is surely a retrograde step. Humax help(?) line say that this is because of potential IP problems, although internet chatter suggests this may not be the case. Either way, we do hope Humax changes their mind & issues software to facilitate this.

PS – is this lack of capability made clear in Sales material?

It’s not down to Humax, it’s Freesats box, Freesats spec, Freesats decision.

Because the Foxsat-hdr User Interface was designed by Humax to totally different specs (G1 box makers had a much wider latitude in adding extra functions, as a result they have different extra capabilities). The G2 freetime design and UI is down to freesat.

The Youview boxes have a lot less capability than the freetime boxes in many ways.

Well, on the one hand, thanks for the explanation.

On the other, wish I’d known when I decided to “update” my kit, because I might well have considered something else.

From what you say, I assume there’s little hope of getting a software revision which will accommodate the transfer of recordings to USB?

Internet chatter suggests it CAN be done via FTP, or ‘streaming’. Is this the case, I wonder, & where would you point me to understand more?

Though with the Youview box it’s possible to copy SD recordings to another box via Scart. I copied a number of recordings in that way, and then transferred them to DVD.

Any box with a analogue output (including the hdr-1000s) can be used to record to a analogue recording device (including a PC with a sound card with analogue inputs). Normally easiest way is to use a DVDR.

Of course. Just commenting that in that respect the YouView box is actually less locked down than the 1000S.

Not a chance with FTP, the recording partition is LUKS encrypted.

Streaming may be possible if and when Humax come up with a DLNA server (It’s likely to require a DTCP-IP protected client).

The HDR FOX T2 pvrs have such a server.

Why ? Afaik you could do exactly the same with a freetime box.

Ah, my mistake. I have the HB-1000S which doesn’t have a Scart port. I wrongly assumed that was the same on the HDR.

Does it not have composite video (CVBS) and analogue audio outputs from RCA phono sockets ?

True, you could do it that way.
