What physical size is the drive in your 1800T (is it a 3.5″ drive or a 2.5″ drive)?
hi the size is 2.5 but the plastic housing the 2.5 sits in will take a 3.5, I have tried two drives both 320gb same as standard size, but one is from a Sky box and one is from a computer both have not been formatted, they came straight out of a Sky box and computer, just need to know what format they need to be in for the HDR-1800T to recognise them. please can you help

The power supply used for a 1800T fitted with 2.5″ laptop type drive is unlikely to support a 3.5″ full size drive.
eg
2.5″ Drive start up current 1A average read/write 0.9W

Connect the drive to a PC and delete all the partitions using drive management, The box should then do the required partitioning and formatting.

Silence is Golden, but so is the price.
About £240:00 quid for a 2TB. The speed isn’t an advantage either. Existing SATA drives are more than fast enough. Ever wondered why the don’t fit usb 3.0 ports on pvrs. The answer is you would gain nothing as the limit is down to the processor needing to maintain the pvr functions. Servicing the the usb ports is a low cpu priority.
Thanks for the reply, I will try a 2.5 HD I thought because the 1800T had the fitting for both sizes then a 3.5 HD would be OK, when I remove partitions etc. I don’t format to fat 32, is drive management in control panel somewhere. not 100% into this but I will try and find it.

If Windows 10 just type drive management in the search field (usually bottom left )

I suspect the problem is that the power supply isn’t providing 12V (which 3.5″ drives need and 2.5″ drives don’t). I would expect if you put a drive of the correct type in, it will just offer to format it if it doesn’t think the current formatting is correct.
Hi all, not been on here for a long time,
I want to replace the hard drive on my 1800t Humax but I cannot seem to get the new drive to format! The Humax is telling me that the new drive is ok but just will not format it!
Can anyone help please as I know someone must have had the same problem.

What make and model of hard drive are you trying to use?
From memory you may need to move a jumper on the Sata drive, to reduce its speed.
go for a lower number.
Hi Martin, thanks for the quick response.
The drive is a Toshiba mq01ABD075 750gig laptop drive.
As Fixdid pointed out I wasn’t even aware of the “jumpers” on these drives. I have checked this drive and the 4 pins are there but there is no jumper in place. As I said previously I took the 1tT drive from this machine to put in the 2000T (which I picked up for a very reasonable £25 in good order and it is working fine. I think my next move is to have a look at the jumper “situation” on that drive and see what is there?
I have just had a quick look at the drive that was originally in the 2000T ( a standard 3 1.2 inch 500 gig drive and again 4 empty pins in the jumper area.
I simply don’t understand the issue as when I replaced the “old 350 gig drive on my 1800T quite some time ago with the 1T laptop drive I just fitted it in, booted the machine up, the machine asked for the hd to be formatted (which I did) and “bobs you fathers brother” away it went! Very curious!!

Reducing the SATA speed is required for the FOXSAT HDR but I don’t recall it being necessary for an HDR-1800T. I have fitted a SATA III drive to an HDR-2000T without any problem.
