InactiveHi,
Took delivery of the 1100S today and the picture and sound quality look great, but the on screen menus are jerky, like the hardware can’t do what the software is telling it to do. Can this be fixed?
There’s another oddity, and that is you can’t manually add your own wireless network details if you don’t have SSID broadcasting enabled in your router. Seems an odd thing to leave out?
I’ve updated to the latest software.
Does everyone else have jerky on screen menus?
Thanks.

InactiveWhile not being lighting fast I would not describe the menu’s as jerky. I am content with my HDR-1000S which we believe have the same main components (and software).
You also cannot set a manual IP address for the Ethernet socket unless you disable DHCP. I think both this and your SSID point above are designed to prevent users setting them incorrectly and consequent unnecessary support calls.

InactiveIf you hit the home button or TV guide button, the picture becomes smaller and goes to one corner of the screen. This is very jerky/juddery. Are you saying yours does this smoothly? I can do a video if required.
Thanks.

ParticipantIt moves smoothly on my HDR-1000S apart from small jump as it settles into it’s top right position. TBH unless you watch it closely you wouldn’t notice it.
Just tried it again and there was no jump. It seems to be random.
I don’t think there is much point in video recording it as without the camera and TV being frame locked together the video itself is going to be very jerky.
What video output setting are you using ? try 1080i and 1080p settings
The jerkiness could well be your TV’s video processing options. Start by turning all options like frame doubling off.

Inactive1 x HDR1000S 1080P output connected to a 2015 Samsung TV. 1 x HB1000S 1080I output connected to a 2012 Panasonic. 1 x HB1000S 1080I output connected to a 2013 Panasonic. 1 x HB1000S 1080I output connected to a 2011 Samsung. All connected via HDMI, all are rock solid displays with no jerkiness or other transition problems when displaying any of the menus or guides.

InactiveTV is a Sony Bravia 4k model, it’s all set up as it has been for months and there’s no jerkiness on anything else at any resolution. I am using 1080p for the output settings on the 1100S.
So, just to rule out it being my TV, I’ve taken it upstairs to an old 1080p Samsung TV and it does it on that too.
I’ve done a video, it shows it exactly as it is. The juddering is present on other parts of the menus, so if I press the menu button while watching TV, the next page that appears, there’s some menu items down the left that scroll up or down, these items are also jerky and not smooth.
I notice that everyone that has replied has the 1000S, this is the 1100S are they the same internally, hardware wise?

ModeratorFrom viewiing the video I don’t see what the problem is to be honest, and I have every Humax freesat unit.

InactiveI guess it’s just badly implemented then?
What is interesting though, Barry, is that other people have commented and said their’s is smooth.

InactiveYes, I’m perplexed. Where’s the problem?

I don’t see any jerkiness in your video, all my units display similar and I certainly would not call that jerky.

InactiveWatched your video and that looks to be perfectly normal behaviour. Personally I wouldn’t call it a smooth transition but I’ve never thought that there was a problem either.

InactiveWhen you see something like iplayer on the 1100S which is very jerky, it just looks terrible. But then again, if you haven’t seen it on any other devices, you wouldn’t know this. My TV has the iplayer app installed and that is smooth, I have a Shield TV and that is smooth. It just seems to be Humax boxes that have this issue. I have an old Android box, maybe 3 years old that we used to use to get wifi on the TV upstairs and that is smooth too.
Even the Mrs asked why it’s “all stuttery”. If this is normal behaviour, then it would seem that the hardware can’t keep up?
Going to return it.

InactivePerhaps the video you posted does not do justice to your complaint. I have just watched it again and cannot see any problem. As to iPlayer, I have it on multiple devices and the 1000S is the equal of any of the others, very smooth and trouble free (connected by Ethernet). I have looked at many other satellite and Freeview receivers and the 1000/1100S series is better than most.

InactiveTechradar review of HB1000s “The HD interface is quick to navigate and the animated menu transitions are fast if a tad jerky.”
Joinfreesat HRD1000s “slightly jerky animation of the <free time> (startup) logo.”
That start up animation has now been changed, but I’m sure many users thought it looked perfectly smooth. It’s all just an illusion anyway, the illusion works better for some people than others, to me the animation frame rate looks to be the bare minimum on these boxes.
Even TV broadcasts and bluray movies need a little help to appear smooth, standard Movie 24fps isn’t smooth and can be quite useless in panning shots. But luckily TV’s have motion smoothing software, with IFC on my Panasonic I get a nice smooth motion and it vastly reduces motion blur between frames.

The reason that blu ray movies aren’t smooth is because the box does not support 24Hz content. The effect is the same as playing a blu ray on a TV without 24Hz support (it’s upscaled to 60Hz using drop frame processing). If you have a blu ray player with usb playback you will get smooth playback without any messing about in the TV. My HDR-1000S plays back 1080p 50Hz content perfectly. There is no problem with iplayer 50Hz content.
I have all video processing options off on my Panasonic TV.
