InactiveMy newly acquired box has succumbed to lightening. It came down the phone line and through the ethernet cable from router. Power unit on the cord no longer working and can’t know if the whole unit is banjaxed or not until I can replace the transformer.
What chance the unit escaped permanent damage?

InactiveAfter the latest software update some might say you are the lucky one.
Seriously though I had my comp power supply zapped just after Xmas by a power surge…a real PITA when trying to then find a direct replacement without removing all the wiring.

InactiveA new power supply was all that was needed. Only drawback was that Humax won’t post to Ireland, so I had to use a third party. Nevertheless, solved.

It is simple, quick and normal to replace all the wiring, This should take about 5 mins max.
Trying to do this without would take far longer and involve a soldering iron and unnecessary risks to yourself.

Who replaces the wiring loom when a PS fails.
Not in my case, the wiring is tailor fitted.
Solder Iron ???? I have never used one during computer wiring, it’s all P&P.

InactiveI have never seen a switched mode power supply without wiring and pre-fitted connectors.
The power supply is the most common cause of PC failure with network ports coming second.

Yep all the rage now, they are called modular. There are a couple of main leads going to the mobo but all others are plug in.

InactiveSeen them, have one, but not seen them on offer without cables (which would be a small part of the cost).

InactiveWho said they were available without cables ???

You implied that’s what you wanted.
