You need to convert them as the Foxsat-hdr requires a system of support files in addition to the video .ts file (.htm, .nts). Raydon has a programme that does this (AV2HDR). You would need to decrypt SD recordings by copying to usb (unless you add the CF to the HDR FOX T2). HD is a lot more complicated.

Firstly the recordings needs decrypting (we cannot discuss this here), secondly the audio is aac which the Foxsat cannot decode, the audio has to be converted to Dolby Digital (ac3).

so just swapping the hard drives over is not an option?

Are you saying that foxsat unit would not be able to read the recordings on the T2 drive?

Correct, you can’t just swap the drives. In fact all the recordings made on the drive are encrypted when they are recorded. Without decryption only the HDR FOX T2 that actually made the recordings will play them back. You can’t just stick the drive in another HDR FOX T2 either.

can you then save files from a Pc to the Humax hard drive?

Answered in post 2. Adding the Custom Firmware to the HDR FOX T2 would make this a lot simpler. You still need to create the sidecar filles as detailed in post 2
