I hope this post can clear up some misunderstandings I have about our Freesat Foxsat HDR. I bought it secondhand about 14 yrs ago, so I guess it could well be one of the first.

I live in the S. Dordogne and it has worked well for nearly all that time (80cm dish, few changes of LNBs, early smart tv). Began to get iffy on HD channels when the beam was tightened.

When we moved, late 2023, I put in a 100cm dish plus a new LNB and all seemed well. But then we got a new smart 4k TV. Fantastic picture in the shop (I now know how they achieve that) but not so good with my setup.

I think the quality disappointment comes because the Foxsat is HD whereas the new tv is UHD. If so, do I need a new box to get better picture quality, or is it the LNB? or is it impossible to get 4k picture quality from Astra 28E?

If yes to either, which box / LNB is recommended? I want to be able to record.

1080i HD is the best you can get… It’s all that is transmitted from satellite.

Foxsat has a rep for being ‘soft’ but I’m more than happy with the upscaling my Panasonic OLED does and I can be pretty picky.

Turn off most of the nasty picture processing done by your TV on the Foxsat hdmi input (most decent TVs allow per input settings).

If running custom firmware you could stream the programmes to the TV and bypass anything the Foxsat does to harm the pictures.

    Thanks for clearing that up.
