    Hi

My fvp-5000t is able to play live tv but not to record programs or pause live tv.

I’m also able to to play old recordings.

I’ve done a factory reset but this hasn’t rectified the problems.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thanks in advance!

Based on the symptoms my first guess would be that the file system has gone read only because of a corruption. The easy way to fix it is to format the hard drive but this will of course delete existing recordings. The alternative is to take the hard drive out and attach it to a computer running Linux and use file system repair tools.

    Thanks Martin for your reply!

Would the reset to factory settings not do the reformat?

If not how would i go about doing the remat is there a hidden setting for this?

Also if the hard drive needs to come out i don’t have access to a computer running Linux but i assume it shouldn’t be too hard a job to take it to a computer repair shop and they should be able to do it?

If I remember correctly there is a format hard drive option on the reset to factory settings which defaults to off and needs to be set to on to format the hard drive.

That sounds like a reasonable thing to do.

    Morning

I did the Factory Reset and HDD formatting and the problem persists.

As the reset didn’t work is it possible that the hard drive is knackered?

Yes it is possible. The best way to check is to open the FVP and remove the hard drive and connect it to a PC with a USB to SATA converter, note that if the drive is 3.5″ you will need the type of adapter that provides a 12V supply. Having connected it use Crystal Diskinfo (free download) to get the SMART data which will allow us to tell you the health of the drive.
