Hi Guys, I hope you can help….

Had a dish installed on Tuesday morning, the box found freesat channels ok – I went to work, the wife text me saying we lost some channels. When i got home, there was no signal, the box saying the signal was to weak. I performed a factory reset, found freesat channels. I was browsing the guide and selected a channel, the box says the signal is to weak, all channels lost. Factory reset didn’t work. Changed to STB mode (all transponders), found over 300 channels, no issues at all, signal and quality showing as good. STB is “unusable” due to no EPG or recording, so tried a factory reset, showed signal good, quality bad. Found channels ok, was able to watch. Tried to go to 608, signal to weak again!

Why STB is good, Freesat is unusable?

Spoke to the installer, he said that Sky and Freesat are on the same satellite…? Then he said his signal meter shows only pass or fail, and he said it was a pass when installed….

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks!!

If you can then try the box on somebody else’s dish and see if you get the same results.

If you do then you may have a faulty box, if it works fine then the installer needs to come and check the dish again.

Hi welcome to the forum. I would sack your installer, Any dish installer should tune for the highest signal quality possible at the time. Satellite reception is affected by rain in the signal path so if he set it up in good conditions without actually optimising it then it can easily lose your channels.

The key transponder is the Freesat Home Transponder.

Using manual tune check what the box says about

    11428.00 H DVB-S QPSK 27500 2/3

Without a reliable signal from this transponder you won’t be able to reset a freesat box.

Any installer who knows what he is doing should always check this key transponder.

Box in use, I will post a photo of the current reception of this transponder tomorrow so you can show the installer what sort of signal is possible in the UK with a properly aligned dish.

Try a channel rescan and let us know?

Channel Quality is Bad though, this is more important then the strength!

    Hi,

Here's a photo of the signal status for the transponder

My quality for that transponder is 100% in good weather, Signal Strength is 90%. Your dish needs to be properly aligned.

    Currently have heavy rain

    Good morning Graham….

I very much appreciate your assistance and advice!

So bottom line is, I should expect signal strength and quality to be “good” at least….?

Can you post a pic of the full strength signal? Would be good to show the installer minimum/optimal strength and quality I should expect…. :-D

He’s coming back on Monday afternoon….

    Thanks again!

My main PSB channels like BBC1-HD are 100/100. (A Foxsat-hdr gives you the actual percentages).

Just thought I would share my own fix to this problem as I had the identical issue with no signal on satellite 2. When I took the satellite cable off the Humax box I noticed that the copper wire wasn’t extending far enough…I assume therefore the box wasn’t able to make a connection. I simply used a pair of pliers to pull more copper cable down and extend, screwed it back on and voila perfect signal and no more issues. Hope it helps
