InactiveHi,
my freesat box stopped booting up,
it was sent away for repair, sadly after only a week of being repaired my freesat wont boot up unless its been switched off for several hours,
the box is just warm,
should the fan be running ? it does not appear to run even when i first switch on the box,
thanks if anyone could advise before i spend more money on the humax

ParticipantHi welcome to the forum. The first thing I would do is disconnect the hard disk to eliminate this. If the box then boots a new hard disk is probably required. The fan is temperature controlled and only runs when it’s needed, basically when the cpu is working hard. Say recording two HD channels and replaying a third at the same time.

InactiveMore details please.
What reaction do you get from the stanby/on switch on the front panel.
What does the from panel display say when you try to turn it on?
Normally a power cycle of 60 seconds should be sufficient to discharge the capacitors.
As Graham says disk problems are a frequent source of such problems.

Thanks for replys,
the on off standby switch is totally non functioning, the only way to switch on is the switch at the back, and it wont reboot for several hours after being switched off,
The box is working again at moment, next time it wont reboot i will disconnect the hard drive to see what happens

You may want to consider installing the custom firmware add on as the box is currently working. Amongst the many goodies is a capability to check and repair hard disk errors.

InactiveWhat you describe starts to sound less like a HD problem but
If it does happen again when you disconnect the hard disk take a look at the power supply capacitors on the small board on the left. Note if the tops are flat (normal) or bulging.
The Foxsat HDR is not known for capacitor problems (unlike the HD unit) but anything is possible.
Think I would bounce it back on the repairer.

InactiveI will contact the repair man tomorrow,
im hoping the box wont cause problems again, however i think its most likely to reoccur 🙄
the capacitors looks fine, this was the part i sent away for repair,
but even before I sent it away, they looked in good order to me,
nothing obvious was standing out,
Thanks for your advice,
