Got my new Aura.. awesome bit of kit. Simple to set up, top draw and have now been able to cut the cable with VM after being stung for many years .. (payback for the box will take about 9 months).

I do notice one thing . With the box in standby, I can still hear a highlight pitch very faint “whirr” in the background . I don’t know if this is HDD or a fan permanently on . It sounds like a fan … Even if box is in standby for hours (red light on), it’s there . Anyone else noticed the same ?

    Thanks .

    Welcome to our Forum :-)

    There are 2 standby states:

    1. What we call ‘active’ – short press of standby button, video/audio outputs off, rest of unit including HDD still active.

    2. Full standby – initiated by long press of standby button and accepting the pop up asking if sure.

One reason I am hanging on to my old Digitalstream PVR. By turning off automatic Time Shift it does not spin up the hard drive while only watching live TV so is ideal for use just for Freeview HD viewing as my ten year old TV has an HD display but only an SD tuner.

I wish modern PVR devices had this option.
