    Well this one has got me, not the psu or hard drive. Checked by substitution. I have 10 of these. Anyway, the crack is I hate binning stuff. Any common issues? do an initialise and all stations tune in OK, but next day I am back to not booting, have scoped all PSU voltages and as I have said I threw another supply anyway. Thanks anyone, had 30 years at Sony, I know that means nothing, just pointing out I am techie based, well I thought so. Cheers anyone.

    Do you have an ESR meter?

    If so check all the electrlytic capacitors on the motherboard.

    One or more will be out of spec.

    ESR = equivalent series resistance

    … google it :-)

    Hiya, thanks, I have a good ESR meter and there are not that many on the board, not often used to giving up on repairs but this one is a swine. I’ll persevere and thanks again.

    In a previous job I fixed power supplies, pc motherboards, printers, tvs, video (that long ago!).

    So many repairs just involved an ESR meter and changing electrolytics.

    Same applies now but I dont have the kit to remove surface mount semis (ICs) (except for Rs and Cs).

    Re-balling kits for BGA are beyond he reach of all but specialist companys now. I even had access to x-ray equipment to check BGA solder joints.

    I still do repairs but nothing like my previous level. :-)

    So many specialist ICs are not available or so expensive that repair is not economic for me know.

    :-)
