Hi, We have just got a HDR 1100s and were looking to download films so that we could watch them on a lap top when we go on holiday. Is this possible and if so, how can we do this.

Downloading of the unit’s own recordings is not part of the unit’s design and all the recordings are encrypted.

For some detail see the link on

To download you’ll have to dismantle your HDR-1100S but as the recordings are only playable by your unit even then you won’t be able to play them on a laptop.

There is a way to copy content to a laptop, however don’t expect very good quality and transfers will take as long as the recordings. The 1100s has Composite Video (yellow) and analogue stereo audio (Red and white) RCA outputs.

A USB capture device or a DVD recorder will digitise the analogue content and save them to a laptop.

    eg

You may want to consider using a usb freeview tuner with your laptop, connected to an aerial you could create a library of content for your holiday.

    HD capable

    SD only

    Alternatively

BBC iplayer allows downloading of content for a limited period. If you have a mobile device (tablet/phone) and subscribe to Netflix, much of the content can be downloaded and viewed for up to 30 days (After 30 days they auto delete)
