My Humax Fox T2 gets quite hot at the back where the aerial intake plugs are after about an hour.

Humax say the fan should take care of this and the fan is working, although it is mucg quieter than my old 9200T.

    It is cool on standby.

    Does your Humax get hot?

    No mine doesn’t,

however I’m very careful with placement and airflow.

Double check that you don’t have the 5v Antenna Power set to on, same goes for any other equipment connected to the aerial

    No power 5v is off.

    Nothing esle is connected.

This is the second one that I have had in a week that gets hot.

Is your fan operating, mine is not and now have a damaged HDD

Fan is OK but not getting 12v

My mistake, have been informed that fan operates at different

    speeds.

My HDR Fox T2 500GB gets quite hot too. It is on an open shelf with a foot of free air above it to the next shelf, and 6 feet of free air to either side of the shelf. I don’t see how it could be more in free air unless I hung it with string from the ceiling in the middle of the room. People say the fan should only run for a couple of minutes per hour but mine runs a lot more than that. I wonder if some people can only hear the fan on the highest speed and don’t realise it slows down but continues running after that.

One thought, do you have the Modded firmware and if so do you have the BT client transmission running? That would cause a bit more disc activity. The modded FW will also show when the fan is running which may help. I dont know why it should be hot though. Have you tried Humax telephone support?

The fan on time will obviously vary with room temperature but at the moment mine is off for 65 Mins. and on for 15 Mins. the on time is divided into 3 speeds e.g. full – Half – Quarter with roughly 5 Mins. at each speed

If the fan never turned off completely (unless the box is in standby not recording) but had a minimum of Low speed, it would probably never need to run faster. Allowing the heat to build up like that in the first place is silly. The fan is virtually inaudible at Low but almost a howling gale on High. I’d rather it ran at Low all the time whenever the box is on, much better than putting up with the very intrusive High for 5 minutes now and then.

Perhaps I am lucky but my fan never seems to get over half and from sitting a couple of metres away I dont here it. There I have jinxed it now.

My boxes are about 6 feet away, and I have never been able to hear them, even in a quiet room.

Mine gets slightly warm on the top back edge and I’ve never ever heard the fan nor can I feel any sort of air flow, and I’m not deaf, however I have a confession to make, and I tend to forget, I swapped the drive out almost 2 years ago, when I first got it, for a 2TB.

Anybody with custom firmware should be able to check the ‘smart’ hard-drive statistics, mine runs at 49 degrees celsius. (it almost makes me want to find the old 500GB drive and play)

It’s pretty academic as I’m not too sure what you’d do if your standard supplied drive draws too much power and hence generates too much heat. I’m struggling to remember which one, but years ago I used to stand one of my previous boxes upright, like a book, with the power suppply/connection at the top as I wasn’t comfortable with the amount of heat. I’m glad to say it never packed up.
