Does anyone know if the DLNA function will be extended to the HDR 1000s so that It will act as a server? I know it can act as a client but I want to view the Humax recordings on my Panasonic DLNA TV in another room.

Yes server capability is promised for a future update. You may well find it doesn’t work with your TV (encryption gets in the way). It will work with other Humax kit like the HDR FOX T2.

Thank you Grahamlthomson for your speedy reply.

    Any timescale on that update?

Also could you clarify re the encryption. Are you referring to DRM rights?

Yes if it is implemented in the same way as the HDR-T2 there is additional DRM protection for HD recordings using the DTCP-IP protocol. Hence clients need to support DTCP-IP and not many do so far.

    Thank you Martin,

I thought as much. The same applies to my Bluray Panasonic system re HD. I can view SD programs via DLNA but not HD, which soesn’t worry me too much.

Do you know if this service will be added as a OTA upgrade or will it also need new firmware? i.e Should I wait or can I buy now and then just wait for the upgrade.

The reason for asking is that I love Gadgets and I am itching to buy one of these because of the FreeTime facility, but I Really Really want the DLNA function also. Panasonic are truly dreadful for dropping their Freesat range because they had trouble with them ( so I am told )

So after investing with them for their freesat recorders they then drop them.

    Thanks for the reply Martin.

I presume then it is just an OTA Software update and the firmware installed is just rewritable Flash memory. ( Some Firmware consists of ROM and would need to be exchanged to cope with some function changes, hence the reason for my question )

Your last response suggests that this upgrade has already taken place, is that correct? Does the DLNA function to watch Humax recorded content on a DLNA TV in a different room already exist?

    Regards

It’s Graham :-) not Martin. No V16 doesn’t include the DNLA server and yes like all Humax pvrs the firmware is in flash ROM.

The HDD doesn’t have any software on it either. Changing the HDD is a simple job. Repassac and I have 2TB drives fitted.

Really sorry Graham for getting your name wrong.

    OK. Thanks for the info.

Are you by any chance privy as to when that upgrade would take place out of interest?

Thanks for the Info re the HDD. That really is interesting!!

May I inquire as to which manufacturers’ disc you are using?

Thank you Graham for all of your responses.

You are certainly kept busy on this Forum.

Shame about the lack of DLNA timescale, but never mind.

I think I will just go ahead and buy it anyway. The reason I am into Freesat is that I live near the coast in Norfolk and the FREEVIEW reception around here is so unreliable. FREESAT is superb in its reliability. Also the Free time facility will be most welcome for the Independent channels when they arrive.

    Thanks again for your help.
