InactiveFVP 5000T. Bought new from Humax last month. After a few days I realised the disc was running continuously so I called Humax Support. They suggested a re-format of the disc might help but this failed (‘Cannot format the storage due to an unknown error’), although the HDD Test was successful. Support arranged a replacement box via CDTI (a service company?). The replacement box behaves in the same way. As part of the set-up process I did a software update on both boxes, the current version on the second box is UKTFAE 1.03.53, with a build date of 13 Jan 2021. I will be contacting support on Monday, but wondered if there were any comments from anybody more experienced with this model. Thanks for any help.

InactiveApart from in standby, the hdd does/should spin continuously. That’s how the buffer works.

InactiveThis happens during standby, no recording or playback taking place, switched off from the remote.

InactiveI’ve noticed my 5000T makes a lot of disk noise when I switch off at the remote (and there is no recording taking place, or due to take place). It can take up to 5 minutes for the disk to go quiet (possibly longer). I don’t have a permanent internet connection or have the disk being served to the local network when the power is off. Based on that, it appears to me that the 5000T does a lot of disk housekeeping before it properly shuts down*. So what you describe may be a “feature” not a fault. If you have the disk being served (a DLNA server, if my memory is correct) then the disk may never go quiet.
(* This is why, elsewhere on this forum, I recommend people wait for the disk to go quiet before switching off at the mains)

InactiveThanks, EEPhil. I think the DLNA use is probably the amswer. My concern was caused by comparing my FOX and 2000T operation with the 5000T.

InactiveAs an aside to this, now that the answer seems to have been identified, I am interested by the comments about hearing the HDD.
I have a 5000T in a pretty quiet environment and have never noticed any sound from it (except from the loudspeakers of course
).

InactivePerhaps it’s down to variable build quality of the device, where it’s placed and how keen your hearing is.
