I cannot understand why non of the BBC films show in the genre search in the tv guide. I can now see I have lost many opportunities for recording films in the last year that I was unaware of due to this. For instance, Mary Poppins is on tomorrow on BBC but it doesn’t show in the search. Thats a major error because most of the best films are on the BBC.
Any idea what is causing this ?
Broadcaster metadata, it’s the same on Freesat only channels classified as Film/Drama are picked up.
Yeah, basically the search function is
pants!Inconsistent.It never appears to provide same results for instance:
Units in same room, and therefore same aerial input using your Mary Poppins example:
1800T – found for BBC1 and BBC1 HD
2000T – found on BBC1 only
HDRT2 – not found
FVP 4000T – Don’t ask!

The YouView app lists upcoming movies. For recommendations, I usually check the print Guardian Review on a Saturday, and set recordings then for any interesting-looking films coming up during the coming week. Then check the RT Discover app’s “best free films” daily to see if they list anything the Guardian didn’t.

I can edit out ads etc. with our HWT120 – Panasonic has had this feature since the year dot (as you say, not so the Humax). Having said that it is a pretty tedious job. When I have done this in the past I usually end up slapping myself for some light relief.

It may be that we just see things differently but I find editing on my DMR-HWT130 very easy, with single frame accuracy. The one BIG OMISSION though on Panasonic PVRs is a search function, strange because my Panasonic telly has it. On the bright I don’t get misleading search results.

The situation is now worse with more films being broadcast, but it does seem to be a bit of the luck of draw which multiplexes get truncated the most.

I didn’t say it wasn’t easy because it surely is and is well executed. However, it is a tedious task, about as enjoyable as sticking a paper clip in you eye IMO. I simply don’t have the patience for it.
It is a great shame the skip feature is only for 1 minute. That is where the Humax wins as 240 seconds is just about the length of the ad break.

There is the Time Slip button used for skipping forward or back one minute or more but needs a few button presses, not a patch on the 9xx0 navigation.
Well Christmas has passed and in all the lists they are not displaying any of the BBC films. What a useless feature.
