Hi All. Thanks for letting me join. I have just bought a new unused Aura recorder, but noticed the storage available is just 94% when it is completely empty of recordings. Maybe the same hard drive is home for the “Updates”? Then again, if it does, why is it described as having 2TB storage available when it will always have quite a bit less from new?

The OS is in Flash Ram not the hard drive. The missing space could be the 5% of disk space reserved for the root user. See https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/7950/reserved-space-for-root-on-a-filesystem-why

It is perfectly normal when buying HDDs/ SSDs (either for computers or in devices like PVR’s that even though it is advertised has having a certain capacity like 1TB or 2 TB etc, etc, the total available for writing to will be less than advertised as the HDD/ SSD reserves a certain amount of space for its own software which manages the disk.

So now that you know that this is not an issue, sit back and let the Aura entertain you with its eccentric behaviour, which you can read about in these pages. Good Luck.

A small part of the “missing” space will be the live buffer. The Aura records upto two hours of the channel you are watching – allowing you to pause and rewind the current programme.
