My parents 9300T has suffered from the freezing issues twice recently, though apparently is currently OK in that they haven’t told me it isn’t.

They and the box are remote from me so I’d like to see if there is an easy way for me to ask them over the phone to determine if the DTG advised planned software update from Fri 30th Dec actually installed or if I have to set up to do the computer download sometime later

    Thanks

    Richard

    PS

If the box is left in standby overnight as a matter of course is there any reason for the updates not to happen. Does signal strength affect this?

    Pressing the following:

    Menu

    System

    Status

Will display the current Software version.

If an OTA had been received they should have been greeted with a pop up when booting the box, advising as such.

Have just done a check with the parents over software versions of their 9300T PVR

    Hardware Version Rev 1.0

    Software Version UPTTF 1.00.15

    Loasader Version 4a.37

    System ID 3023 0000

    Update Date Dec 17 2008

It is left in standby overnight with the auto-updates enabled but would not seem to have ever done an update properly. The update date is probably when the set was originally configured as it was bought during early 2009

It is around 47Km from Winter Hill transmitter for Granada to which it has been manually tuned to the relevent MUX’s

Is the distance from the transmitter an issue and is an update via a null modem now really the only reliable way to achieve this Are there any major possible stumbling blocks or things that can go wrong (I’ve done computer system upgrades but never such as this)

    Thanks

    Richard

The System ID is correct. My guess is that the box is not updating OTA because it needs a reset to default settings. The distance from the transmitter should not be an issue providing the signal quality when tuned to BBC 1 is 100% (or close to it). For information on updating from a PC (including possible problems) see http://www.tynecomp.co.uk/flash9200.html. I am aware of thousands of updates from a PC and I only know of two that rendered the box unusable and both those were very special circumstances that do not apply to the case you are describing.

Besides what Martin has posted above, the first post in the pinned topic at top of Forum also contains links detailing how to auto, and manually update when an OTA is being transmitted.

Many thanks to both for the above

Just in case you have not seen my post in the pinned thread.

There is an OTA for the 9300 commencing tomorrow Jan 5th @ 10am.

    Thanks

I had also been in direct contact with Humax who have replied with the same note about date and time, that I’ve forwarded on.

All I have to hope now is that the manually forced update during the period works

    Just checked

Forced update worked OK this afternoon with 1.00.26 software and update date of July 2011

Has left it a loader version 4a.37 though

The loader has to be updated from a computer, it can’t be done OTA.

Just for information, I have been helping someone to update software on a 9150 via email. OTA updates failed with an E-HW. I eventually realied that the problem was a very early loader version in conjunction with the fact that the Humax was supplying antenna power to a masthead amplifier. The workaround was to take the box to someone elses house where the installation did not require aerial power and it immediately updated. The long term fix will be to update the loader via the serial port.

Martin, does the early loader only affect the Auto Update system? From your post I’m assuming a user instigated Automatic or Manual Update was possible?

Is the Loader software seperate to the operating system or contained within?

Is there any obvious negative effect of only having the earlier loader version

It affects both automatic or manual update (because the problem is that the aerial power is lost so there is no reception). I don’t understand how you think that my post suggests otherwise; perhaps you could explain?
