InactiveAll timers dissapearing overnight, including series repeat.
formatted HD, no change.
tried uploading firmware through rs232, appeared to go but date stayed same (same version uploaded)
Do these things have a backup battery ?
how do i delete firmware ?
Can a firmware chip be blanked or replaced ?
Heeeelp !!!

InactiveI don’t have one of these, however…
I can’t imagine formatting the hard drive would help with losing timers.
A factory reset would be the first choice, followed by a format if that didn’t help and you don’t mind losing the recordings.
The firmware/software is pretty old, July 2011, I’d be surprised if you weren’t already on this version. If you’re not then you’ll need to download the latest software from July 2011 1.00.26 and try again.
There isn’t a backup battery that would keep the firmware intact. The firmware will be in non volatile memory on a chip and in theory could be deleted/blanked by overwriting with zeros or replaced with expert soldering skills, however I can’t imagine anybody doing this, and it shouldn’t be necessary.
Check the firmware version and update if necessary, if this doesn’t help then let us know what firmware you’re on? have you done a factory reset? Do you switch the box off completely overnight or leave it on or in standby? Also anything else you thing may be relevant,i.e. recent changes
Double check the above and report back with more info if necessary and I’m sure somebody, who has one of these, will be able to help/guide further

This Humax 9150/9300 bug has been reported many tines before.
For some using the menu option to set to defaults has helped.

InactiveIt has the latest firmware 1.00.26
Any idea how to overwrite the firmware as uploading same firmware still reports July 2011 install date.
time padding is set to auto, could changing to zero help ?(series timers appear, but are gone the next day)
Currently disabled automatic update to see if timers stay overnight!

You could install an earlier version of the firmware and then reinstall the latest version but I think it is very unlikely to help with the actual problem.

You are overwriting the software, the reported date is the release date by Humax, not the date of installation.
By “time padding” presumably you mean the GMT Offset setting, try it and let us know but my 9200 works fine set to Auto as does does my friend’s 9300.
Have you done a Default Setting as suggested twice by Damian in his post above and again by Luke?

InactiveBy time padding, I mean altering the start and end times of each timer set.but I’m told this stops series recordings.(could be a clue in there)
Gonna do a default reset and leave unplugged tonight.

Quote:time padding is set to autoSo you’re talking about padding reservations, there is no ‘Auto’ setting. Are looking in the correct section of the menu.

InactiveA single timer stayed and recorded overnight, but putting in more, results in all being deleted.
Anything I want for the day has to be put in manually each day.
Does anyone have any idea what mode the unit would be in overnight to delete timers ?
I suspect firmware auto check blanking nv ram ready for new firmware that never comes ???
Could a faulty cap cause this ???

ModeratorTry disabling the overnight software update check:
Menu
Installation
Software Update
Regular Auto Update – set to Disable
See if that helps
Edit: I realise you have already stated this has been done, but re-check setting.

Could be, anybody’s guess, faulty Caps do cause other strange issues which I wasn’t aware of. Before you look at swapping the psu or replacing Caps… Are you 100% sure that you don’t have any channels in the 800+ range as these will definitely cause problems.
It’s good that you’ve tracked it down to one entry is fine and more than one then all get deleted. If Barry’s suggestion doesn’t help, and I think you posted that you’ve already tried this, then I’d be looking at what happens if it’s left powered up all the time, i.e. don’t let it go into standby, switch all power savings off. If that helps then it would seem that something with the psu is at fault. It’ll come out of standby sometime early in the morning 3am/4am? to update itself. If leaving it on helps then switch all the power savings back on, let it go into standby, but set a daily 5min or so recording of anything to start a couple of minutes before the time it would normally come out of standby to check for updates (hope that makes sense). The idea would be to let it wake up properly out of standby a couple of minutes early.
It’s going to be trial and error again over the next few days, I’d be looking at… check the 800+ channels, check disable software updates, leave it powered up over night one time, try a 5min recording of any channel 3:58am to pre-wake it up. If it is a power problem then I’d assume it’d be the main psu, however it may be something on the board so any work around in my mind would be preferential, good luck

Inactivetook the lid off today, no sign of dodgy caps.
no channels above 800.
I tried a logik lpvr88 which seemed ok until i tried watching same program i was recording. Audio dropouts all over the shop.
I’m gonna get one of those digital signal meters for £10 off ebay and see what i’m actually getting.
There’s a software update friday (5/4/13), but it is the same as the one I uploaded through rs232.
I’ll give it a go and see what happens.
