I’ve had this problem occurring for a while now, and it’s not power outage or signal loss.

At first, I thought it’s the Hard Drive failing, which I think is the case anyway, so i’ve installed a brand new HD.

Guess what, the first two recordings have both failed. The recording shows the programme, a broken recording symbol, and the time it started, followed by the same time. Normally, for a half-hour programme it’d be 18:00 – 18:30. The failed recordings show 18:00 – 18:00

I’ve retuned, i’ve check the new disk, and it’s fine.

    Any ideas?

Did you have the smart tune option off when you retuned? If not, try again with it off.

I’ve tried both, and no luck. Every recording is failing.

I thought I’d try formatting the disk, but it won’t format because it says “a recording is about to start” FYI, there are no recordings set.

I might have to try a factory reset, if there is such a thing.

    There is a factory reset:

    [F]/Settings/System Settings/Factory Default

If you want to format the HDD at the same time there is an option listed.

Did/does the failed recording only occur on one channel? If so, which one? Does only one time cause a problem? If you set the recording manually (like with a VCR!) does that work?

Thanks, I’ve just hit the factory reset option with the hope of success.

It happens on all/any channel, and the same for instant record.

I’ll report back when factory reset completed.

I’ve tried recording a show and, oh dear: “Cannot support this video file format due to invalid file format.”

I meant to add, but can’t see an edit on my post: That’s what I get when I try to play back the broken recording.

Adding: I can confirm that it’s not recording anything, from any channel, SD or HD, on the new disk, or the old disk. BTW, I did check the disk is correctly seated and engaged, and while on that, I checked for other mechanical problems: None seen.

I did manage to access some of the old recording from the old disk via my Linux computer, so i’ve moved a few of those off that old disk onto another USB hard drive as a test. I’ve plugged that into the FVP5000T and all are accessible.

Clearly, this FVP5000T has some kind of hardware or software issue.

    Hi,

I realise this is in old post but thought I’d give it a go…

having the same issue I think. Did you ever resolve this?

    I,m just trying a retune on mine…

Currently have a different drive in but behaviour seems the same as the one I’ve taken out. Both successfully pass the HDD test.

Did notice while checking signal strength and quality that only one of three receivers is showing any data.

Top one was 50% strength but 100% quality.

The recorder had worked for a number of years without issue and this seems to have been a gradually increasing issue.

Also suspect its a hardware issue somewhere…

    Thanks for any replies.

Re the single tuner showing a strength, you will only get more than that if you have two recordings running on different mux to the one you are watching. It only shows tuners which are currently in use for some activity.

If you can with your problems, try recording BBC1 SD and ITV1 SD and watch BBC2 HD and then check the signal/quality.

I’ll give the SD + SD recording thing a go but with my current issues I don’t think I can record anything… SD or HD.

I was trying out a different hard drive. Was actually a 1TB 2.5inch but fit the SATA connector OK but obviously would not be able to bolt it in on the current mounts. It was out of an old EE TV box that was capable of recording 6 channels concurrently until EE decided to brick them remotely. So it should be capable of recording within the Humax box (The drive was working fine in in external USB enclosure)

The Humax box detects the drive OK, can run the HDD test but will not format it it as says recordings are imminent… even though they are not (have seen this issue one another post.) Factory reset with Format drive did not resolve the issue and that appears to be the same with the original Toshiba drive… So I am suspecting the drive may not be the problem but possible the hardware that runs the drive… may have to buy a new PVR. But am open to suggestions still.

For now I have put the old drive in and I’ll try your suggestions above.

    Regards,

    Steve
