Recently, my 5000T picture freezes and then jumps to live again, and again, and again. Sound is unaffected.

The only solution is to turn off the power and wait a moment or two, then power up and all’s well. It does this randomly when I turn it on first time. It’s not the signal strength that’s too strong, or too weak. It happens on SD and HD, and any channel, which suggests it’s a video processing issue.

    Any thoughts?

    TIA

Is this when watching TV live via the PVR or when watching recorded content?

But is it watching live or watching a recording or both?

Thanks. I am struggling to think of a good explanation; anybody else have some thoughts about this?

I have occasionally seen something similar. With my occurrences, I found that switching to a channel on a different Mux and back sorted it For example, from BBC1 SD to ITV SD, but not between the HD versions as they are on the same Mux.

Next time it happens, try pausing the live broadcast for a few seconds and then press play. Does it still skip?

Thank you all, i’ll give both of those ideas a try.

I have seen similar. The live view pauses (sound continues) with a recording appearing to behave. I say appearing because I’ve noticed a line across the screen that breaks up into squares. It looks like some form of interference. As poshsimon says that a power cycle clears it for a while this seems unlikely. With my complex setup of aerial cables in and out of multiple Humaxes I have found that the routing of the cable can make a difference.

The only other suggestions would also discount the power cycle clearing it. Any chance that you’ve rescanned the Humax and tuned into the wrong transmitter? Is your transmitter on low power? Has something new blocked the line of sight from your aerial to the transmitter. Is the aerial and cable still in good condition? Has someone nearby (including yourself) got some new equipment that is noisy?

BTW if recordings are OK, wouldn’t pausing live tv also be OK? It is a recording after all.

OK, it’s quite choppy right now.

I pressed pause and then play again, which is running on recording. There does appear to be a little pixelation on the recording, but no picture breakup.

I checked signal strength on tuner 1 and it’s 98%, with quality 100%, and very little variation.

I’m not tuned into anything other than my usual transmitter, and it’s running on its usual power.

Powering down and back up and its now 100% fine.

I don’t mind doing this occasionally, but this is now becoming an annoyance.

It’s a shame there is not a suitable replacement that is not bug ridden as the 5000t was a bad decision on my part. All previous Humax boxes i’ve owned have been much better.

98% signal strength is on the high side for an FVp-5000T; have you considered using an attenuator in the aerial cabling to reduce the strength a bit and see if it helps?

Thanks, I haven’t. I’m over 20 miles from the transmitter and in a relatively poor signal area, and had to use Freesat for many years in the past.

It seems odd as nothing has changed, and it doesn’t explain why rebooting solves the problem.

Just to make this thread useful, Martin Liddle’s suggestion of an attenuator seems to have solved the problem. No more pictute freezing. Thank you Martin.
