unit has stopped recording altogether have done factorey reset and firmware up date hav echecked hd and connections all ok hd not being rconized in settings

Try disconnecting the HD, reboot and reconnect.
Does it see it detect it being connected?
What sort of HD is it, powered, unpowered, AV spec or not?
