Good morning. I wonder if anyone can help. Last night a number of the channels on HDR 1100s were lost to “the receiver is not receiving a signal or the signal is too weak”. It’s happened to Channel 4, 5 and most of the ITV +1 channels and probably others too. I’ve checked signal strength, it’s good and I’ve tried to retune, I think, through the freesat channels box in Your Settings. All this to no avail. Nothing has changed to the set up of TV etc and the weather is good and dish is still attached to the house. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

What signal quality is shown when tuned to these channels?

Please post details of channels including the region you receive.

Hello, it shows No Signal. (I didn’t realise I had to tune to the channel then check signal strength, doh). The channels I can’t get are BBC2 (SD), BBC4, Channel4, 5, ITV HD, ITV +1, ITV2+1, ITV3+1, ITV Be, etc. The region we pick up is BBC SW, we’re in North Cornwall.

Howdy, the guide just shows BBC One, it doesn’t show the region names, but 962 did play alright. The dish is on the side of a single storey part, so not difficult to reach. Lnbs don’t seem to be expensive, so we’ll give that a go. The dish has been up for quite some time. They can’t be tricky to replace, can they? I’ll let you know how I get on.

Did you have channels 950-973 ? They should be there unless you deleted them. As the dish is old make sure you buy a lnb with a legacy adaptor.

    eg

Check your coax cables for any sign of water ingress. If wet replace with WF100/PF100 sat grade coax and use silicone grease on the connections.

A busy day here or I would have been back earlier.

Can I add one point, remember to note the shew (twist) on the LNB before you dismount it. Set the new one to the same skew.

Yes, those channels, 950-973, are there. I’ll give things the once over while I’m up the ladder and I’ll remember to check the shew. I just have to wait for the lnb to be delivered. It’s quite exciting really, isn’t it. Thanks everyone. I’ll report back.

Well, I tried to replace the lnb but things turned ugly pretty quickly. To cut a long story short we now have a brand new dish and all’s well again. Hooray. Thanks for all your help.TTFN

Hello. I’m new to this forum and hope that you will be able to help me.

I chose this thread because it seems to describe – more or less – my problem.

I have an HDR1000 connected by splitter to a single LNB outlet. The other end of the splitter connects to my Freesat enabled TV.

The TV works perfectly well, but the Humax tells me that the signal is too weak.

When connect the Humax directly, then it works perfectly.

Is there a solution? I really need both to work since this is my only means of watching one channel whilst recording another.

    Thanks for your attention.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

Since both your TV and the HDR1000 show good signals from your single output LNB when connected individually, that would seem to point towards your “splitter” being the culprit.

What type of splitter is it? You cannot use a regular UHF splitter on LNB feeds. Only one device can control the LNB ie high band, low band, vertical or horizontal polarisation switching at any given time.

Is it not possible to change the LNB and run another two cables?

It is not normally difficult to do yourself, and inexpensive.

The HDR1000S is much more capable than the TV as it can use two tuners on a single cable.

    https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/what-can-i-record-and-watch-using-1-or-2-cables

If you can’t change the lnb for a quad (4 output) one, best to connect the single cable to the HDR1000S.

Basically only one output of the splitter allows the satellite tuner to control the lnb, if you switch the splitter outputs to connect the HDR1000S to the one now used by the TV, hopefully it will work in single cable mode. Depending on the channel(s) being used by the HDR1000S the TV Tuner will have about 50% of the channels (see the above link) when it’s on or in recording sby.

More info on how a LNB works is here, this explains why you can’t just split a satellite feed as you can with a terrestrial aerial.
