Have you considered tinkering with the Freesat HDR-1000S? These have a tendency to develop a problem that stops them accessing the hard drive. A lot of people would be VERY grateful if you could identify the faulty component or offer a repair service at a reasonable charge.

Thanks for letting me join the forum.

My Humax HDR 1000S will not pause or record. I replaced the hard drive and set to factory default but it still does not pause or record. Is there another component that could be defective?

Sounds like a well know problem that has been reported many times for the HDR-1000S which is reportedly due to a component on the mother board going out of spec. As nobody here has identified the component the only options are to scrap the box or send it off to a company called Digirepairs in Northern Ireland. See https://www.digirepairs.co.uk/product/repair-booking-humax-freesat-plus-freeview-plus-youview-plus-box-repairs-2/ be aware that there was a recent report that a box they had repaired did work for a year but the fault reappeared shortly afterwards.

Watching Yesterday channel and signal strength is 82% and quality jumps between 40-80% and mostly the lower and is never constant. Lots of picture breakup. Switch to TVs own tuner which is being fed by the aura and signal strength is 90% and quality is 80%. Doesn’t fluctuate and no picture break up. Huh! I could pick many SD channels and have the same situation. Only the HD channels give me a decent picture.

there does seem to be a theme emerging of issues with SD channels. Barry, are Humax aware of the concern about this?

Just started today on my BT (Humax) Freeview box. When playing a one-off recording – say a movie – there is no problem but every episode of EVERY series refuses to either play or delete…if any kind souls have an opinion I’d be grateful.

Try putting the box into standby and then turning off the electrical power for 10 seconds. See if it then works properly when you turn on the power.

but on the DVB-T muxes if I look at the signal test then every few minutes the signal quality drops for a few seconds and then returns to normal. What is odd is that I cannot see any glitches in the sound or picture.

By how much does the quality drop?

This seems to happen most often when recording three DVB-T channels at the same time (BBC1 SD, ITV SD, and Sky News).

I am definitely becoming suspicious that the Aura is glitching when being worked hard but within specification. I would report what you have found to Humax.

So last night we were watching The Serpent on BBC 1 HD which started at 9pm and at the same time recording ITV HD.

I am sorry but I am still not clear; are you actually playing the recording or just watching the live TV via the Humax? Generally in the situations you describe it is better, on Humax kit, to be playing the recording.

Unless there is something up with my hard drive, I’m surprised that no one else has noticed this.

Certainly it is true that if the hard drive is reallocating sectors then you see a very distinctive blip on the screen. I think I still favour the idea that something is struggling when the box is busy.

But I then tuned to BBC4, pressed “Guide” and I could then read everything scheduled on that channel until 3.30 in the morning when it will close down.

    strange that.

Was this BBC 4 SD or BBC4 HD?

However I can almost guarantee that once the Aura is switched off (normal or low power standby) when the Aura is restarted it then fails to reconnect to the network. Now why that should be I have no idea?

That sounds as though DHCP is failing. Is it possible to set fixed IP configuration on the Aura?

Looking at what you have posted, DHCP negotiation is failing. You say the box is connected by cable; are there are any Powerline/Homeplug devices involved?

You shouldn’t need to resort to these measure Graham simply because Humax can’t make a decent tuner. I can see from reading posts online I’m not the only one complaining about the weak signal with the Aura either.

But equally there are as many people complaining the tuners are too sensitive as there are complaining they are too weak. There is something odd going on that I don’t think we fully understand yet and as I don’t have an Aura I can’t experiment.

How do you explain the Ethernet network switch issue as well?

That is odd; I take it you have tried a different network cable?

Finally fixed by using a variable attenuator – initially the signal strength was up to 96% with 100% signal quality, then after reducing the signal until the signal quality fell below 100% then increasing it slightly back up to 100% this reduced the signal strength down to 58% – so the Aura tuners seem extremely sensitive and may overload very easily.

I would suggest increasing the signal strength a bit more to say 70% to have some margin.

I have the latest software version and even purchased another brand new original remote but the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a fix?

Which model number of remote control do you have please? Some problems with second hand machines have been down to them coming with the wrong model of remote.

Hi, just looked and strength is showing at 55% on nearly all channels and is usually 70% quality is still 100%

Sometimes the strength and quality just both go blank then come back on again.

Which transmitter are you using; Storeton, Mol Y Parc or Winter Hill?

With thanks to Barry, I now have the file to force a system reset. Send me a PM and I can tell you how to obtain it.
