“regularly” Martin. š
As it is regularly rather than randomly, it might be helpful to know whether it is happening every few seconds, every few minutes, every few hours etc.

Whilst watching live tv, recorded tv or apps such as Plex or Youtube, I regularly get a quick flash of black screen.
Might be helpful if you can say what the interval between the flashes is ?

Is it worth re setting it somehow?
You reset by pressing the Red Freeview button the select Settings> System Settings> Factory default. You will need a password or pin which, unless you have modified it, will be 0000. You didn’t answer my question about how long you have had the Humax?

So reading the article, it sees to suggest for Netflix 4k, it requires an extra chip which may or may not be in the Humax Aura.
For Netflix SD or HD, if the article is correct, it seems to suggest that it should be possible.
I agree with both those statements.

Hi Martin, when I reconnect the cable and automatically retune, it varies, the most. Iāve had is about 60 (there should be over 100).
I know you say you have checked but to me it sounds like a problem with the aerial or the cabling. Is the aerial pointing in the correct direction? Are you sure there are no kinks in the aerial cabling? Have you checked for water getting into the cabling? Is there a masthead amplifier in the aerial cabling and if so is it still working? have you checked any joints in the cabling?
When checking signal strength, there are 3 (I canāt remember what they are…. tuning 1, 2, 3?) which shows signal strength and quality. 2 and 3 is zero for both and 1, the quality is normally 100% but the strength is about 40-50%. not sure if that indicates anything?
There are three tuners in the FVP which is the 1, 2, 3; the tuners will only show a strength and quality when they are actually doing something. 50% signal strength should be workable and signal quality 100% is the important parameter. If you want to see all three tuners in action start simultaneous recordings on BBC1, ITV and BBC TWO HD.

to give detail I changed my network to 192.168.2.x as a test before changing it back to 192.168.0.x I can’t seem to find the setting to change or reset this.
How is the Humax connected to your network?

Prior to this, the tv was fully watchable, no signal issues using the aerial cable Iād recently bought. On setting up the humax box, Iāve followed the instructions, all gone as planned, however only a few channels found. Iāve re-tuned, automatically and manually, and I get different numbers of tv channels that it finds, with some of the channels not being found when I manually re-tune.
If you reconnect the aerial cable to the TV and let it retune does it get the expected range of channels?
Iāve checked my signal in my area and it says itās good.
Iāve tried another aerial cable, made sure all cables are in, checked aerial outside, and all is good.
You seem to have done the sensible things. When manually tuning did you follow the instructions in the FAQ at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1 ? How long have you had the Humax?

Could it be related/caused by the update rolling out?
I haven’t received the update so I doubt that there is any link.
What is the date in your system info? See my last post in the YouTube thread.
12 June 2020 As I stated I haven’t received the latest update.

Btw, Martin….did your retune remove your recordings as well as the schedule?
No. It is probably the most commonly asked question over the years on this Forum and the answer across all the Humax models I am familiar with is that a reset to default settings will only remove the recordings if specifically asked to do so.

After researching this a bit, it appears the Humax Aura doesn’t have a specific hardware DRM chip, which if true would mean the Aura will never be able to support Netflix no matter what updates they release.
Exactly what DRM chip do you think it would need?
Thanks for confirming Aura would need a DRM chipset, which it may not have, confirming my original post. Grr, even a 720p app would be 2x better than sideloading quality.
You have made a mess of the quoting and done nothing to demonstrate that the Aura doesn’t have the required hardware. It is a possible explanation but so is the explanation in the first link “By limiting all of the other devices out there, Netflix has the ability to āsteerā you toward specific devicesādevices that are paying Netflix the most in licensing and advertising fees.”

Also…..Iāve no idea about what multiplexes are, let alone which are my favourites!
If you go back to the days of analogue TV the broadcasters used four different frequencies at the transmitter and each of those frequencies carried a single channel. What happens with Digital TV is that you still have transmitters transmitting on a small number of different frequencies (typically between five and eight) but the difference is that each frequency now supplies more than one channel and this stream of multichannel data at a particular frequency is called a multiplex. You can see which channels are supplied by which multiplex at https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/channel-listings-industry-professionals so if you look at the channels you can’t currently receive then you should be able to work out which multiplex(es) are not properly tuned.
Not done manual tune ever either. Iām usually fine with doing techie stuff once I understand what Iām doing but tech actually hates me!
I accept that a manual tune is confusing at first but it really isn’t difficult once you have done it once. Essentially you have to specify the broadcast channel number and set a parameter to say whether the channel number has a transmission type of DVB-T (typically used for standard definition) or DVB-T2 (typically used for high definition) and press abutton and a few seconds later it will tell you how many channels it found and you move on to the next one . There is a FAQ by Barry at https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/manual-tuning-instructions-1 which is based on something I wrote for the HDR FOX-T2 which in turn drew on something written by Biggles for the 9200T. Please note the the first URL in the article is obsolete and you should use https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management to find the channel numbers and transmission type for your transmitter.
My suggestion is wait until Monday, photograph your schedule of future recordings and do an automatic retune making sure the Smart option is off. (The Smart option is designed to retain the schedule of future recordings but in my experience it is poorly implemented and can often causes tuning issues which is why I suggest turning it off.) If that doesn’t restore all the channels then consider a manual tune and come back here if you need anything explaining. None of this is difficult, it just requires following instructions and if they are not clear then come back and ask questions.
Admin Edit: obsolete link in FAQ Martin refers to has been changed.

HELP! recordings section suddenly showed 128 recordings instead of 80.
deleted programmes had reappeared,
It had programmes shown as recorded, but failed, FROM NEXT WEEK!
Schedule shows no recordings for Sunday when there should be 2, 2 for Monday when it should be more…..but it also shows sundays date for Monday, some of Mondays programmes for Wednesday etc!
We switched it off at the plug, and back on…..still the same.
All recorded programmes seem to be there
DATE AND TIME ARE CORRECT ON THE DISPLAY
Does anyone have any ideas please?
I saw very similar symptoms this morning so I am glad I am not alone. My only guess is that somehow the box received incorrect information about the date. My approach was to delete all the apparently failed recordings, photograph the schedule of recordings and then did a reset to default settings, manually tuned to my preferred set of multiplexes and then reinstated the schedule. Took about half an hour but the box was due a full retune anyway.
Interested to see if there are any other reports of something similar as I haven’t seen anything remotely like this in the two years I have had the FVP-5000T.

Quote:How are you going to restore them? The same way I will copy them off, using an external HD via USB, and, I assume i’ll be able to copy them back with the reverse method.
I suggest you test how the restore process works. If I was doing it I would be taking the hard drive out of the Humax to copy things off and then back.
