App for android phone do you know if anyone is working on this or where I should start looking? Tks Should have said to control the Humax instead of using the remote?
I think there are people thinking about it.

Also, I wonder whether it might be worth trying a software update (assuming my parents are not already running the latest version) ?
I suggest the manual tune and then if that doesn’t work try installing an earlier version of the software and then reinstalling the latest version. Your problem doesn’t sound like hardware to me, so one would hope to be able to do something somehow.

I’ve read about recording lists being lost on power down. Remotes seemingly hanging as the unit gets confused about which channel it’s meant to be on locking you out of live-pausing of TV etc.
Never heard of those two problems and certainly not common.
Series Links not always working if you’re away for a while (but no idea what people’s definition of “a while” is).
That is a known problem but only affects people who use padding (and are away for more than 7 days) rather than active recording. The work around is to use auto on and auto off to bring it out of sytandby for say 15 minutes each day to update the EPG.
Green screens that need the power switched off to cure, which deletes all the timers.
The green screen was a significant problem for some people at one time but is not an issue for most people with the latest software. What make and model of TV do you have? Turning the power off certainly does not delete the recording schedule.
Recording or changing channel from the EGP hit-and-miss.
Works perfectly for us.
The unit can’t/doesn’t/won’t “talk” to a TV and turn it on or off, or select the right input automatically.
This is related to the green screen problem and is not an issue for most people but again depends on the TV.
So the question ultimately is, how much of the poor reviews (which are a minority it has to be said) should I pay attention to, and how much of it should I ignore?
I have tried to answer above. In my view the HDR is a good PVR as supplied by Humax and the user community developed firmware is making it even better (as with the Toppy).

1. Is this ‘crash after automatic channel search’ a known issue ?
If yes, any work-arounds ?
I don’t recollect it being reported before. I would think the original problem might be due to the box being tuned to more than one transmitter. I would suggest seeing if a manual tune works. My instructions based on the Big-les instructions for the SD Humaxes are as follows:
1.Go to Digital UK web site URL and input your postcode and house number; tick the box marked “I am in the aerial installation trade”. Look carefully at the information returned for each transmitter; don’t blindly accept the recommendation for the most likely transmitter; in our case it suggests Emley Moor but the reception predictor accurately predicts that we can’t currently receive from Emley Moor but we have line of sight to Chesterfield transmitter which is only 5km away.
2.Having decided on a transmitter, note down the six or seven channel numbers for the mutiplexes (shown in the column headed N and on a darker grey background). If you are in a post DSO area carefully mark which one of these channel numbers carries the HD Mux.
3.
On the HDR press Menu>Settings>Installation. You will be prompted for a password which defaults to 0000.
4.
Select Automatic search for channels and immediately stop it; save the results. This deletes all previously found channels.
5.
Select Manual search. In the Channel field press right arrow, scroll up or down and select the first channel number from your list. In the Transmission field leave it on the default DVB-T for all channels except the HD channel; for the HD channel it must be changed to DVB-T2. Press Search. This should find a number of channel names. Save the results.
6.
Repeat the manual search for each channel previously noted.
7.
You will then need to enter your schedule of recordings.

On the forum I have found references to:
Edimax
EW-7711UAN
EW-7711USN
Looks like these have an external antenna.
I also found one that looks like the Humax one but cant find it now.
Is there a recommended type apart form the Humax branded dongle?
The Edimax is the safest bet. Buying something that “looks like” the Humax dongle is not a wise course of action.
what is best one with or without external antenna?
The further the Humax is from the router and if there are walls involved then an aerial will be helpful.

OK now things are getting really confusing :-
1. Unable to run cat/tmp/hosts from telnet prompt results in a invalid command response.
You are missing a space; should be cat /tmp/hosts

Thanks guys, I have a 5 year warranty on both boxes but would rather have a go at cleaning the contacts than posting it off for repair.
Try ringing Humax ( not email); in the past they have been known to send out a new remote free of charge in these circumstances.

I wish to setup a catalouge of films etc ON the box itself can i copy files TO the T2 from across my network i.e copy and paste from my Win 7 pcs.
With the standard software you can use FTP to achieve this or you could install the user community modified software and have more options for transfer.

I would think that anyone recording Piers Morgan using AR would probably be ok, as the box should track the change when it wakes up 15 mins before scheduled start time.
My point was that the X Factor recording made with AR ran well beyond the start of the Piers Morgan program which suggests to me that the signal for the change of program was sent late; why do you think the Piers Morgan recording would have been OK?

Here in Granada land, my HDR-FOX T2 recorded right to the end ok using AR.
I wonder how those using padding got on. 😉
Same here for us with AR. However I noted the recording continued some way into the next program (Piers Mogran interviewing Gazza) and I wonder if that recorded correctly for people using either AR or padding?

I don’t have padding set up. I will try 1 minute at the start and two at the end as you suggest.
I’m sure other people must be unaware of AR errors and how to switch the AR system off.
My advice is stick with accurate recording if most of your recordings are from the main BBC and ITV channels. Both sytems have strengths and weaknesses but most AR problems on main channels are due to mis tuning and you have resolved that problem.

I did an auto rescan and the list is now ,22,25,28,29,31,32 and 34.
Yes that looks correct for Crystal Palace. Let us know in a few weeks whether this has resolved the problem. Fingers crossed.

Ihave connected the Humax dongle (Tried both front and rear usb ports) and followed instructions . My network is detected and I am using the security and password that I use for other devices (wii and two computers)which always work fine but the PVR will not connect. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong. My Router is a Netgear DG843G v5
Does your password contain any characters other than alphabetic characters and numbers? There have been some reports of password problems when using some other characters in the password.

I’ve an HDR FOX T2, with the latest firmware. I’m starting to get the error message “Unable to track” on some of my pre programmed recordings. The recordings are listed but are empty.
Is this a bug? It’s most frustrating. I can’t trust my box to record the programmes I want at the moment!
My guess would be that your box is not correctly tuned and you are receiving from a mix of transmitters. Press Menu>Settings>System>Signal detection; then press the right arrow on the large centre button. How many multiplexes are listed? If more than six, what are the numbers and where in the country are you (ideally give first part of post code)?

I have 2 Humax boxes in the same room – one Freeview & one Freesat but the trouble is the remote from either box operates both boxes at the same time – does anyone know of a way round this?
Always worth looking at the FAQs. Try http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/multi-code-function-hdhdr-remote
