As you say, the files are encrypted and are only useful for backup in that form. Doubtless you are aware of utilities which can pursuade the T2 to write files to USB storage in an un-encrypted form – or don’t we talk about that sort of thing here?!
You don’t need a utility for SD recordings; just use the HDR to copy the file to the USB storage and it will be decrypted as it is copied. HD recordings are a different story and the forum policy is not to talk about methods of persuading the HDR to remove the encryption.

I think it must have been a power supply problem as I’ve noticed that the writing on the front is much brighter than on my other one.

I think it is much more likely that Humax have made a production change that increases the brightness of the display.

ParticipantThe System ID is correct. My guess is that the box is not updating OTA because it needs a reset to default settings. The distance from the transmitter should not be an issue providing the signal quality when tuned to BBC 1 is 100% (or close to it). For information on updating from a PC (including possible problems) see http://www.tynecomp.co.uk/flash9200.html. I am aware of thousands of updates from a PC and I only know of two that rendered the box unusable and both those were very special circumstances that do not apply to the case you are describing.

But … it seems to miss out the first minute or so of the beginning of programmes.
What software version is the box using? 1.00.26 introduced some improvements in this area.

I suspect Humax are no longer supporting the box or even developing beta firmware for it…
Barry has several times suggested that there remains a possibility of a software update for the 9200; are you discounting his suggestions?

After a while I discovered that the only thing that was wrong was that I hadn’t pressed the PVR button on the remote, which is why the Humax wasn’t picking up the signal 😳
This thread is about the SD models (9200, 9150, 9300) and none of those have a PVR button. I suspect you have one of the HD models.

However, the last two times we have switched the box and TV on, the Humax springs into life but the TV pictures stays blank (or rather, green). Only switching both on and off several times does this remedy the problem.
First thing to check is whether you are on the latest software version 1.02.20; this contained significant improvements in this area.

ParticipantOk I have gone back and looked at the last email from Humax and you are correct that it refers to 1.02.26 but this is an unfortunate error. If you look at http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php you will see that what was actually broadcast this week was 1.00.26.

we’ve noticed that the unit occasionally forgets all scheduled (future) recordings. At the same time, a few other settings (such as the screen aspect ratio) also go back to default.
This problem is reported from time to time (and mainly affects the 9300) so you are not alone. Various theories have been suggested but I don’t think anyone has come up with a cure. Try contacting Humax support to see if they have any suggestions.

So what is the 1.02.26 mentioned in the Humax email?
What 1.02.26? There is no such version for the 9150/9300. 1.00.26 has been around for a while but because some people either leave the box on all the time or switch it off at the mains when not in use, they do not receive the software updates.

Humax PVR9300T sticks on one station. After removing plug, it is okay but problem returns fairly quickly.
Read the first thread on the Forum “Remote control has stopped working”. Sounds like your software needs updating.

but could someone tell me a) what was the software version before this latest update and b) what is it after the update.
The reason I ask is that I have an email from Graham North at Humax saying that the December update would be 1.02.26 but the link in his email is to a July update 1.00.26 and 1.00.26 is the version shown on the broadcast schedule.
You haven’t told us which model box your mother has? Assuming it is a 9150/9300 then 1.00.26 is current (and as you have noted has been around for a while) and 1.00.23 was the previous version.

Was your reply regarding the cables in response to my post Barry?
I think it was. Before you do that could you say whether the box is still crashing if the TV aerial is unplugged before turning on the power?

I fear you are going to need cables to try and restore the unit by uploading
Barry, what do you think the problem is?

On Radio programmes the increase in size is dramatic. It’s 4 fold on BBC Radio 4 (bit rate 192Kbps), almost 5 fold on 4extra (160Kbps) and almost 7 fold on World Service (96Kbps).
I have seen the suggestion by someone who investigated (can’t find the quote right now) that the way radio programs are saved on the HD models is very inefficient.
