Then I introduced a dongle and connected no problem., however tonight when Mum tries to watch recorded TV she can’t see it. Whenever she presses the media button it starts.trying to connect with network and she can’t get back to looking at the HDD. I don’t have a Humax box and Mums a new user.
Are you sure she is pressing the Media button and not the TV Portal button?

Not sure I fancy clambering onto the roof to find out since I’m on the top floor of a tenement block!
If the aerial lead goes into a wallbox try starting at that end behind the set.
Could water damage really be that selective? All is fine when aerial goes directly into TV.
I agree it is not intuitive but something is hampering the Humax and there have been reports in the past about poorly made joints and water ingress both selectively affecting some multiplexes. I can only suggest a process of elimination. Perhaps you could take the Humax to a neighbours house and see if it works properly there. If it does you know the problem is local to your installation.

The humax can only see what the DLNA server is presenting to it – are you sure the DLNA server has successfully indexed the new files?
If it hadn’t indexed them, how could the XBox see them?

Participant70% signal strength is ideal. Silly question but have you had a careful look at the aerial cabling? It has been known for water to get into the cabling and cause this sort of selective loss of multiplexes.

ParticipantVery odd. What is the signal strength now on the channels you can watch?

Does anyone know how I could use my Humax Fox T2 without an antenna signal? I would like just to watch iPlayer and YouTube but avoid having to pay my annual license.
I would have said you have the wrong piece of kit. If all you want is IPlayer and YouTube you would do better to put the HDR on eBay and get something like a Western Digital Live Stream Media Player Link to Amazon or similar. You should be quids in.

Nope – no joy !
So which protocol did you choose? Does trying the alternate help? This may all be a red herring but somebody (but not necessarily with the same type of router) claimed it worked for them.

1. I’ve already “proved” the dongle on a workstation, and it connects to the network with no trouble.
2. The Humax box is on the same rack as the TV and my Panasonic Blu-ray player, both of which are working fine with the network (wirelessly).
3. I’m not using MAC address filtering.
Is your router offering two alternative encryption protocols eg WPA and WPA2. Is it feasible to just use one? Some reports suggests that the the alternative protocols confuse the Humax.
Any idea how I might escalate this with Humax, and actually get to speak to them?
Ring them up.

OK completely wrong. The radio button is set to:
WPA-PSK(TKIP)+WPA2-PSK(AES)
Can you change it so that it is just WPA2-PSK(AES) which would be preferable or just WPA-PSK(TKIP) if some other devices on your network don’t support WPA2. If a previous poster is to be believed, it is the fact that router is offering two different encryption protocols that is confusing the Humax.

Ok, I thought the aim was to put the files on the PVR and watch them on TV. I must have misunderstood.
Not necessarily, it may equally be me that his misunderstood.

Thanks, I will have a look at home tonight and post back later. I have a feeling it was something like ‘WEP2 AES’
OK that is very plausible but worth checking.

Extracted from the review at theregister.co.uk
“Rather hidden away under the Humax label on the Home screen is the box’s section for playing multimedia from USB (or copies moved to HDD) and shared DLNA devices, plus web services such as Flickr and Picasa (and not much else). The video icon names XVID/AVI as the supported format but it handles a decent range of alternatives too, including WMV, TS, MP4, M4V and MKV, though HD video fared better from USB than over the network. For audio files, however, it is just MP3.”
Yes it is a DLNA client so you would be playing the files on the Humax where I thought the stated aim was to play them on the( presumably smart) TV?

Thanks for your reply. Whenever I have to connected to the hub with my laptop, smart tv etc, I have just selected it from the available network list and put in the password which is just lower case letters.
You need to login to the router and find out what the security type is. I ask this because somebody reported a similar problem and the cause was that the router was offering more than one security type which was confusing the Humax.

I use a virginmedia hub and all lap tops tvs etc can see the network.
On forum advice, I purchased an Edimax EW-7711UAN 150Mbps Wireless 802.11n High Gain 3dBi USB Adapter. In a sense, it works fine as the wifi setting is not now greyed out. However, no networks show up when it is connected and even when entered manually, the humax will still not connect.
What is the encryption setting on the Virgin Media Hub? Does the passphrase have any non alphanumeric characters in it?

That said, from what I’ve read, you can store AV files on a 1000s and play them on the TV which is one of the things you want to do.
How would you play them on the TV?
