By the way – will the proprietary format format a HDD larger than 500GB?
Yes but there is a limit to the total number of files that makes it of limited use but I am aware of several people who have fitted 750MB drives.

I was seeking to help others who have had problems with disk corruption or failure from having to fork out £90.00 for an exchange unit. It was genuinely designed to help
What on earth are you talking about? Nobody is disputing that you were trying to help. I was simply pointing out that in the specific case you are discussing there is a simpler and less destructive route to make the box functional again. Guess what, I am also trying to help.

I have checked the box info and the last update was Dec 2008 UPTTF 1.00.15 from what i remember. I saw that it should be UPTTF 1.00.26?
Question is……where can i find this to download to make my recorder work better? Hopefully my lead should be here tomorrow to connect to laptop.
I agree that updating the software is a good first step. The software is at http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/freeview-sd. You may find flash9200 the easiest tool to install the software see http://www.tynecomp.co.uk/flash9200.html

If this utility can be run from a box where the loader application file won’t load the this may be the case
No you have to connect the drive direct to a PC.
Something that tech support don’t know aout has little value for the owners of this unit when it fails
Isn’t that the point of Forums like this?
if it was the solution wouldn’t the re-flashing of the firmware have resolved the loading issue
Reflashing the firmware will have no affect on the contents of the disk. My hypothesis is that the contents of the file that hold the cached EPG data have become corrupt such that when they are read back they cause the PVR to hang. It is not a particularly common problem and the solution was only discovered relatively recently. The solution is to delete the file which the Humax will recreate when it next boots. My suggestion is just a simpler and non destructive way of fixing the problem than your brute force format the drive approach.
Did you ask here for advice?
Martin Liddle
ParticipantAt a guess the real problem here was the file holding the EPG cache becoming corrupt. This can be fixed using an option recently introduced into humaxrw with no need to format.

Thank you for you prompt response – firstly if I install the custom firmware and use fix-disk, would I still lose the recordings.
The whole point of fix-disk is that as far as possible you should not lose recordings.
Secondly, how do I do this

Hope someone can help I have Humax Freesat Top Box and during the last week or so I have been having problems playing back TV recordings which I have recorded on the hard drive of the top box recorder. The picture and sound appears to freeze and break up and at the time this is happening the remote will not work. There does not appear to be a pattern where it happens on one channel only.
It sounds like a hard drive problem. I think you alternatives are to format the drive (which will of course delete the recordings) or install the custom firmware and use fix-disk.

I would then wait until somebody gets it right or the next Humax provides these much needed services, I think the company have done their selves a disservice.
What you should have purchased is the previous Humax box, the HDR-FOX T2 which does everything you want and lots more. It is a significantly better PVR than the 9200/9150/9300 and has a lot more functionality than the DTR-T1000. No need to wait for a future box.

Quote:For the past week or so my box has been making a sound that I think is the HDD R/W head continuously jumping to different tracks. I can stop it with a power down and re-boot, but when I use the box to watch TV it starts up again and contonues after I put the box on standby. The hard drive moving its heads around whilst the box is active is normal although if it has got much louder recently this is worrying. The box not going into standby properly has (at least) a couple of possible causes. Do you have one (but not both) of Power On Timer or Power Off Timer? It is usually best to have none or both. The second possible cause is a corrupt recording. This is tricky to find without using the custom firmware.

I bought it in December 2012 via Amazon.
Contact Amazon and get it exchanged.

The user manual suggests power down for 2 minutes but I still have no record icon in the menu option.
How old is the Humax? Most likely explanation is that the hard drive has died.
Martin Liddle
ParticipantHard to be sure but I would guess that water has got into the tuners on the Humax and damaged them. There been a few reports of similar problems over the years but I am not aware of anybody having found a way of repairing the problem. Sorry not to be able to offer a more positive contribution.

I’ve got a HUMAX 9200T that I bought whilst living in the UK, and now it’s sitting under the TV in Germany collecting dust. TV signal for the house is through Satellite dish w/LNB; I tried upon arrival to get the 9200T to work with it, with no luck. Now…I know I got the 9200T as a digital terrestrial receiver, but my stupid question is — will it work as a satellite DVB-S receiver?
I would say there is absolutely no chance of making it into a satellite receiver; sorry.

Also I can’t access any menus, the humax logo comes on at initial boot up then when normally a channel comes on its the green screen!
Sounds like an HDMI handshake problem. What make and model of TV? have you tried a different HDMI port on the TV? If the TV supports CEC try turning it off on the HDMI port the Humac is connected to.

Is the manual tuning still the preferred method of channel searching?
With 1.02.29 yes. 1.02.32 is far better at automatic tuning and with that version manual tuning is unnecessary for most people.
