I have copied lots of material from my 2000T to a USB thumb drive. However, you won’t be able to put them onto your new machine but just play them from the storage drive.

Why wouldn’t you be able to put SD content onto the new machine?

Wow! Then I guess using a USB stick is out of the question.

You need a USB stick of reasonable capacity but 8GB USB memory sticks are on sale on ebay for less than £3 delivered and USB memory sticks as large as 512GB are available.

Taking advantage of your expertise, if I may, the whole purpose of the exercise is to copy/move recordings from this machine to a new one. Can I assume from what you have said that I could simply connect the USB socket of the old to the new and then go through the copy procedure, so that the new recorder would receive and store the selected folders/recordings with no problems?

That will not work for at least two reasons:

The content is all encrypted with a key that is unique to the Humax that made the recording and will only play back on that machine (with the proviso that SD recordings copied to USB storage will have the encryption removed).

With a USB cable joining two Humaxes together neither box will present itself as a USB storage device so no copy is possible.

    I can’t tell. It’s just a normal 30 min program that I recorded.

If it is SD then depending on the channel it was recorded from and the bitrate used it could easily be bigger than 500MB. If it is HD then I would expect it to be bigger than 500MB.

Thanks very much Paulius55 and Faust. I’m not able to try it out until later this evening but I’ll let you know here how I get on.

EEphil – Thanks for your reply re copying – I actually received the same instructions from Humax Support, who told me to first format the USB as FAT32, which I did on the PC. But when I tried copying I was told that there was not enough space available on the USB(488Mb!). I then tried NTFS but with exactly the same result.

So how big is the file you are trying to copy?

I disagree. I think it is a firmware problem.

So how many boxes less than a year old have been affected by this firmware problem?

The fact that many boxes recover after a period left unpowered, would seem to indicate a software rather than a hardware issue.

It sounds more likely to me to be a hardware fault with some component gradually deteriorating until it becomes marginal and sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. This problem almost always seems to affect boxes that are more than 12 months old; if it was purely a software fault why would age matter?

It can’t be a known fault and happen with this new box because everyone would be comlaining which they are not.

What percentage of the users do you think are using iPlayer? My guess would be with smart TVs and tablets it is probably less than 30%. We do use it but not very often and I have seen a couple of reboots but not something that bothers me significantly.

Well that seems ridiculous that I can’t play my HD recordings on another box. You say there are ways around it but you also say too late – are there or not ?

If you had access to the old box and it was still capable of playing recordings then the answer would be yes; as I suspect that is not true then the answer is no.

If the signal was too strong it should show at 100% but I get between 72 and 84%.

No sorry that is not correct; if the tuner is receiving a very strong signal then it can report a signal strength well below 100%.

I am less than a mile from the transmitter so I would not expect this to be a signal strength problem.

Is the transmitter a main transmitter or a relay? If you are less than a mile from a main transmitter then you may well have too much signal and be overloading the tuners; an attenuator in the aerial cabling would help in that case.

When I connect my PVR9300 using an HDMI connection I get a great picture but no sound.

Have you tried turning the volume on the Humax remote up to maximum?

I have discussed all these issues at length with Humax Technical Support, to be point where is became clear that I understand more about Windows network protocols than they do, which does not fill me with confidence that the new firmware will address all the issues.

The people who do technical support are very definitely not the people that develop the software.

    Is the 2000T the same?

The HDR-2000T is interface is very similar to the earlier HDR-FOX T2 and I find it clear and simple to use.

I’ve also seen comments elsewhere about problems with the sound on the 2000T. It it a real problem?

We see the problem once or twice a year which we can live with. I suspect that whether you experience the problem will depend on the make and model of TV you are connecting to.

I think the bottom line is that I want to buy the 2000T but being able to copy unencrypted SD programmes to USB stick is important.

So: Given my requirements, is if the 2000T or 4000T?

With the HDR-2000T you can copy SD programs to a USB stick and this will remove the encryption; it is a bit slow but something that up to now we have not used a great deal. The 4000T has options for getting content off via the network interface. I would suggest buying an HDR-2000T on-line so you can evaluate it for a week and send it back if you don’t like it.

I had my HPV-4000T for about a week,

and one of the issues I have is also with switching on.

I Hope they will fix this at some point.

I find if I switch it off, before I go to bed, then try to switch on, the next day, from the Remote Control, the channel number appears briefly, then it seem to switch itself back off again.

Switching on using the button on top of the box works better, but still takes a few goes sometimes.

To me that doesn’t sound like the problem that most people on this thread are describing. I would ring (not email) Humax technical support to discuss the problem with them and explore the possibility of getting the box replaced.

    Humax 2000T

I tuned my Freeview TV (Panasonic )as normal. Lead from aerial into Humax then to TV, all normal wiring. It tunes fine but when I turn the Humax off there is no signal to the TV. Turn the Humax on and the signal is back. Programmes record fine so the problem is the loop through.

You need to turn off power saving in standby to enable loop through. There are some quirks with loop through on the HDR-2000T and some pople advocate using an aerial feed splitter before the Humax to feed the signal to the TV but for us the loop through works well enough.
